Moonshadow is an authentic Mongolian yurt situated in the ancient orchard of a 275 year old farm on 100s of acres of forest and field, yet just 6min to Mahone Bay and the highway to the city.

Our farm motto is 'traditions that nurture' and that is what we aim to do in all facets of our time as stewards.

Our background in anthropology and community development has us focus on bringing some of our cherished treasures to share in Moonshadow (she is named for both the amazing night skies found here, with 0 light pollution, as well as our goat herd Queen who has passed but continues to occupy a central place in our hearts).

The yurt is furnished with lush and plush - and exotic, all ingredients to feel nurtured and pampered in a natural setting - important more than ever we believe in our current shared reality. The yurt is furnished with every attention to your needs - it is 'glamping' with a focus on the glam. It is also low impactful and appreciative of the diverse cultures that make up our global community. There is African art, Mongolian pure wool rugs, a Carpathian mountain (Ukraine/Poland) sheep skin - and of course, high quality bedding alongside a super thick spring coil mattress (no memory foam here!), cooking facilities, abundant solar lights (as well as some that are battery powered) - truly magical at night, all needed kitchen supplies and bathroom supplies, fresh drinking and washing water (from our 350ft artesian drilled well), and there is HEATING provided (2 sources) as well as electricity for recharging or for 1 other use. Slippers, electric blankets, board games, coffee and tea (we produce herbal tea on site, and occasionally roast coffee right on the farm).

Sit and watch deer munching beside you at dusk, listen to our pigs snoring next door or hear the great horned owls hooting beside you at night. Or indulge (depending on availability) in the ultimate luxury of a private hot tub soak (prior booking required; there is an additional small charge for this amenity).

In addition, we offer amazing morning breakfast baskets delivered straight to your door in the morning, or our 'farmers feasts' charcuterie grazing boards later in the day (all produced on site in our commercially licensed kitchen; pre-booking required). Or stop into our onsite farm shop/deli for regional cheese, farm-made salsa and jams, or a special treat of a s'mores kit with individual table top fire pits (using liquid fuel).

We also offer private classes in heritage skills such as cheese making. Sign up for a 'Day as a Farmer' and learn to milk goats and more. Or just hang out in the pasture with 'our girls', our treasured herd of this year's babies, some teenagers and our older menagerie/family. Trails on the farm allow for a lovely stroll to work off some of the treats and enjoy a different glimpse of wild nature.

If you venture off farm, the beautiful beaches of the south shore are nearby and Mahone Bay and UNESCO Town of Lunenburg are both very close by.

Heather and Phil were excellent hosts. Our family felt very welcome on the farm. The camping site was very neat and clean with everything we needed. We were able to help feed the baby goats which was the highlight for the kids. Heather was very informative and answered all our questions. We did a cheese class with Heather which made the trip all the better.
