There are very private old forest service trails leading directly into the Pisgah National Forest. To get to the cabin, it’s a 15 minute uphill hike. It’s important that you arrive before dark to check in. I can sometimes assist with my UTV to help transport supplies to the Summit. Parking is not available near the cabin; your vehicle can be left near the trailhead in good weather.

Hans and the summit cabin live up to their reputation for greatness. It was wonderful spending the winter holiday up at the cabin. The cabin was well stocked for our needs cooking wise, and both cozy and comfortable.

What an amazing trip! The Summit has everything you need to feel comfortable. Plenty of cooking tools, hot water, and solar power. We brought our two dogs and explored the trails nearby…the best 3 days we’ve had in a long time. Hans is a wonderful host and makes sure to help out however he can. We chatted with him for a while and learned lots of cool things about his history and the area.

We will definitely be planning another trip back!!!

Thanks Han for a great cabin to stay at!
If you want to be close to busy streets and neighbors then this is not the place. It was such a nice getaway to be away from the hustle bustle of work and everything. Super secluded, private and quiet. You can hear the water flowing from the beautiful creek down by the road where you will park. The Pisgah National Forest is right there and just miles from the blue ridge parkway. (Unfortunately a little harder to get to at the moment since the road washed out close to there so you have to detour) as everyone has said pack light and wear hiking boots. Tennis shoes will not do!!! I would recommend packing a cheap pair of flip flops to be able to go in and out of cabin if you have dogs to tend to so you don’t have to deal with your hiking boots every time. Such a nice off-grid cabin if you want ideas for your own place. I have AT&T and did have service at the cabin. But not in the near area or below the cabin.

Love it!The Summit CabinHard to tell but it is really steep walk going up. I forgot but someone should use the level app to see what degree it is. Not to difficult to do if used to hiking but I imagine quite hard if it has been raining or is raining because of mud. The Yeti 500 will run a couple lights Hans has provided and provide plenty of light. Recharge your phone or laptop. The solar panel connected will recharge it quickly after the sun comes out.

This place was great. It was a fantastic weekend away. It felt like we had a whole section of the woods to ourselves. Everything was exactly as advertised and our host Hans was very kind and helpful in getting out gear to the cabin. I hope to go back!

Hans and his tiny cabin is truly a hidden gem.

Nested on top of a short 15-20 minute hike is a little piece of paradise for those looking for a perfect outdoor getaway. It truly “feels” like you are far far away from civilization, but you’re not.

The cabin itself is beautifully built. Bottom floor has a porch that’s made to sit and watch the sunset on. Inside, there is a pull out futon, cooking stove with griddle to sizzle up your favorite meals. The small Mr. Heater Buddy doesn’t struggle to make the cabin nice and toasty at all, even when it was low 30s outside. 2 sinks, shower, and compose toilet are there for your conveniences.

Upstairs is a living quarter that consists of a bed and dresser. Just enough to have a good night’s sleep, safe and sound from
elements whatever they may be. Also a mini balcony that is great to bird watch on if that’s your thing.

The piece of land itself is just perfect, surrounded by trees for privacy. There is a hiking trail right off the fire pit area if you’re up for some exploration, which offers rewarding views for not much effort.

A lot of thought has went into this little spot, and we’re grateful Hans has decided to share it with the world. There are other little neat things as well, but that is for you to discover on your own when you visit.

Thank you Hans, we will be back!

The cabin was fantastic!! Beautiful tucked away in the mountains, this time of year is amazing with the changing leaves. Hans was very helpful / showed us everything we needed to have a relaxing weekend. We were impressed by how functional the off-grid cabin was! Had everything we needed and the propane heaters kept us warm on 30 degree nights. Hans supplied a gallon of drinking water and a bag of ice, but plan on bringing water and some battery powered lamps couldn’t hurt.

Hans has built the most incredible off grid cabin! Super secluded, but has everything you need for a comfortable weekend away from the hustle and bustle! Definitely recommend staying here! Hans was super helpful and went out of his way to give us a tour of the house and all its functions. Thankfully he also helped us bring our luggage and groceries up and down the hike with his UTV. It rained our entire weekend so it was super muddy! But well worth it!
