We are a Mangalitsa farm in The Smoky Mountains of western NC. The entire property is oriented toward private farmland views and surrounding mountains. It's really quite remarkable to be so accessible yet feel so remote.

NOTE:    RV campers please consider our alternate listing Smoky Mtn Mangalitsa River Camp (with four campsites)  if the more remote sites listed here are not appealing or accessible for your size vehicle.

NOTE: Groups of eight or more are required to rent a private porta potty.  Please add it as an “extra” to your booking or arrange it prior to arrival with the host. Should your group grow in size we will order you a porta john with notice and accept payment here on the premises.

Several campsite options exist for tent camping. We are a 95 acre working farm raising the wooly Mangalitsa pig on a half mile of river that offers serenity in a pocket of wilderness 1 mile off of I40. The property is rolling pasture with forest stands, three streams as well as trails and farm roads for hikes leading to 360 vistas. Three horses, two adopted burros and six goats round out the charm.

Check in time is no later than 5pm please. You may contact the hosts for exceptions.

HOW TO FIGURE YOUR NIGHTLY RATE

The per night rate is for each vehicle and we charge for EVERY vehicle that is in your group. Rates are higher on holidays and weekends.

Each vehicle grants the admission of four campers. Extra persons beyond four (in one vehicle) are $7/person per night.

If your group has two vehicles this grants you 8 guests.

Additional person fees apply when you exceed the number of campers allotted per vehicle.  Select a $7 fee for each person for each night.  For example, 2 extra people for 3 nights is a total of $42.

EXAMPLE

Vehicle 1 for two nights (at $49/night) with 4 campers = $98

Vehicle 2 for two nights (at $49/night) with 5 campers $98 plus (one extra person staying two nights)  $7 plus $7 = $112

Booking Total for this example $98 = $112 = $210

If you have questions i.e.. Infants, extra cars, groups of teenagers etc. Please DO NOT HESITATE to ask Catherine directly. We assure you we aim to please.

Checking in before 5pm is requested. Later times may be available with prior arrangement. Our farm is very dark and navigating at night is difficult. Please contact Catherine directly so we can check you in safely and accommodate your schedule. NO CHECK-INS PERMITTED AFTER DARK.

Tent campers can park vehicles close to Sites 1, 2 and 3 or hike and camp at more remote spots (4 & 5 are 4 wheel drive) including sweeping mountain views (pictured in the photo with the young rider on a black horse).

Sites 1-3 offer parking within a few yards of camping, firepits, full size picnic tables and access to port-a-john.

Site 1 HEISMAN'S HUT is creek side on Dawn Branch and is named after our number one 500 pound Mangalitsa boar. Why is he number 1? He's 500 pounds, I'll let him tell you! This is a small grassy meadow with options for sun and shade within steps of the running creek. Gently moving babbling water and firelight set the stage for your night with friends. Suited for several cars, campers and cars with trailers.

Site 2 CREEKSIDE is creek side on Dawn Branch and is accessed through our bamboo pasture. It is a grassy pasture spot along the tree lined creek that is beautifully shaded in Summer afternoons. This location allows for easy access to the back portion of the property. An afternoon walk up the hill or through the woods with a bottle of wine is rewarded with 360 views (pictured with young rider on the black horse) of the stunning Smoky Mountains. Later, crystal clear running water back at your campsite will refresh your soul and lull you to sleep. Suited for several cars, campers and cars with trailers.

Site 3 MEADOW is in a cool and quiet grassy meadow nestled in the horse-shoe bend of Dawn Branch Creek.  Water and nature engulf this spot~ it is truly a splendid setting!  See picture labeled "Site 6 MEADOW. Suited for several cars. It has views of a neighboring cabin with cattle and 2 paint horses.

Site 4 HILLTOP is a site for true 4 WHEEL DRIVE vehicles only. This site offers 360 views in the north corner of our property.  The boundary fence to the adjacent property is barbed wire with cattle often on the other side.  The drive to the site is through grass pasture, a short dirt road then up a grass road and sloping pasture.  The ground has been leveled and can accomodate 3 cars or 4 tents or a combination. The views are incredible.  This area is flexible in that you can tuck into the trees (30 yards away) down low or stay high on the hill on the leveled area. Please look at Instagram Smoky Mtn Mangalitsa River Hipcamp for a 360 video. Suited for several cars. Yes we can deliver a private porta john to this site!

Site 5 LOWER HILLTOP is a site for true 4 WHEEL DRIVE vehicles only.  This site is down the hill from Site 4 on a naturally flat landing next to the boundary fence and a tree.  The views are 270.  The boundary fence to the adjacent property is barbed wire with cattle often on the other side.  The drive to the site is through grass pasture, a short dirt road, then up a grass road and sloping pasture.  The ground is SLOPING GRASS PASTURE with incredible views.  This area is flexible in that you can tuck into the trees or stay high on the hill. Please look at Instagram Smoky Mtn Mangalitsa River Hipcamp for a 360 video. Suited for two cars only. Yes we can deliver a private porta john to this site!

We have a livestock guardian dog named Stetson on property that roams freely to ward off coyotes and other predators   He is a very large, sweet and friendly dog that we rescued two years ago. He will come say hello but shouldn’t be a nuisance to you. Please refrain from hugging him or grabbing his collar as he was abused in his early years.  He will happily redecorate your campsite should you leave your garbage out. (Smiling) Please don’t hesitate to contact us if he’s a nuisance.

YOUR DOG MUST BE ON LEASH AT ALL TIMES PLEASE. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DOG'S WELFARE AND WE APPRECIATE YOUR UNDERSTANDING.

Catharine and Rick were the best hosts! Catharine lead us to our campsite as soon as we got there- her farm was beautiful! We loved seeing the pigs, donkeys, goats, cows, and her farm dogs! We will definitely be back!

Hello fellow campers,

My husband, dog, and I just returned yesterday from this fantastic campsite! We stayed from 4/21-4/24. Yes, there is a reason this campsite is a finalist for best of 2022.

The farm is pristine. Depending on your preference, the site offers different surroundings: riverside, impeccable views, and private grassy areas—all lovely. Catherine is outstanding; she is approachable and quickly responsive during your stay. You cannot ask to stay with a better couple.

The entire farm is open for you to hike around, which can be an adventure in itself! We hiked the Appalachian Trail while we were there because dogs are not allowed in the Smokey’s.

Thank you again Catherine & Rick for the hospitality and for opening up your farm to us! We would come back again in a heartbeat if we were ever again in the area!

This is such a beautiful spot to camp from the amazing views to the great privacy & the wonderful hosts! We really enjoyed our spot on lower hilltop. One thing to note about this spot is there weren’t a lot of trees that provided shade in April, so keep that in mind!

We loved camping (tent) on Catherine and Rick's farm! They both were super friendly and the directions given to the farm were very clear. They have multiple spots on the farm to camp and all in good distance from each other so you will feel secluded. The farm dog Stetson will most likely greet you in the mornings. He's sweet and it's fun to watch him run around the farm. There are many things close to the farm to go do and places to explore. We highly recommend staying there. They take amazing care of their farm and you will notice that as soon as you arrive. We can't wait to go back!

The property is gorgeous. Working farm, but definitely groomed for campers with walking paths and campsites situated perfectly amongst an idyllic setting. We were in a van and tents, but saw a nice size airstream comfortably situated an a hilltop. I didn't walk all the way down, but I could see one of the yurts on a riverside site that looks great if you just want to camp without all the gear. Can't recommend it enough.

Not far from Asheville. Not far from the parkway and Mount Pisgah. Gas station nearby for ice and things you forgot. Firewood right on site and fairly priced.

Great communication from delightfully nice property owners.
