Sleep suspended over this wooded mountainside, in a Tentsile, three person, tree tent. (13'x 13' x 13', 700 lbs weight limit) The tree tent accommodates three people, however three large men said it was a bit tight. This primitive campsite, and suspended tree tent, provides a unique experience for campers, new and seasoned. The trillium (hammock below the tree tent) also provides addition sleeping spots. This is a great way to vacation with family, friends, or solo.

Located in Moravian Fall, NC, about 15 minutes from Hwy 421, this shelter is complete with a rain fly and mosquito netting.  The campsite is situated on a steep hillside, overseeing a horse pasture. The tent is designed to protect you in all weather conditions, rain or shine.

Once you arrive, you will have a short,  2 minute trek down the stairs, down the hillside, through the woods to this location. You will be surrounded by trees and embraced by the landscape.   The Tree Tent is built to house three people. Below the tent is the Trillium, a hammock that provides three more sleeping spaces. However, because of weight limitations, we do not allow 6 people.

Lay on the hammocks and listen to the horses grazing peacefully below the camp. The creek babbles near by. In the evening, the tree frogs sing their nighttime song. When the fireflies come out, they twinkle like nature's Christmas lights.

A short walk away,  is the community area, which includes the creek, the well, potable water, and the outdoor dish washing space.

There is a fire pit, with a grill as well as a rocket stove.  We do not provide firewood. However, you are free to gather dead fall wood to add to your fire.  The canopy of trees keeps even the dry wood difficult to light. Please bring fire starters, charcoal briquettes, etc. for helping you get a fire going.

LOCAL ACTIVITIES:  to the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away.  15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking.

Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away.

Heading east, you can find several fine wineries and vineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town.  About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday.

To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public.

To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones  you find in the nearby river. There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages.

Merlefest (September 16-19, 2021), a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town.

Be sure to look at the activities section below for additional information.

ARRIVAL TIME - Because of the steep hillside, dense underbrush, and the dense darkness of the woods at night, is difficult to get into the site after dark. Please come before the sun sets. Please bring flashlights!!

TRASH REMOVAL: Please take your trash with you.

CAMPING IN THE TENTSILE IN COOLER WEATHER: As the cool air comes through the bottom of the tree tent, it is recommended that you bring one or two blankets to put under your sleeping bag. A double layer is recommended to keep out the cold. (blanket plus sleeping bag)

FYI, if you want more than 3 campers,  PLEASE ASK ME. There is room on the trillium to sleep, the lower level of the treetent for an 3 additional campers. There is also a shelter with mosquito netting where a tent could be staked. Please see photos. Please feel free to reach out to me if you want to increase the number of people staying in your group.

This was our second time staying at Elizabeth's amazing tree tent. We had so much fun and love all of the additions she's made since the last time - especially the slack line and water station. Will definitely be visiting again!

The tree tent was a lot of fun! The campsite is outfitted with all the things you might need too, such a bonus! The location is private and remote enough to really get a great experience without feeling like you are off the grid, which was the perfect combo especially for a camping novice like me! We brought our 2 kids, ages 6 and 7 and they LOVED it! They could explore all of the trails and woods without worry. The tree tent is, as described, set up for 3 people, but we made it work just fine for the 4 of us. I would bring a regular tent next time and switch off nights for 2 in the tree tent and 2 in the regular tent. All in all it was truly wonderful! Highly recommend staying with Elizabeth!! We will be back!!

Elisabeth and Mark were so kind and have a great setup! My partner and I comfortably set up camp and spent the night in the trees in their tenstile tent. It was so unique and fun. We loved hearing the horses and having a camp with so many amenities already there! Pots, pans, running water, a kitchen area, hammocks - the works. It would be an awesome site to bring a family with kids. We regret not staying longer. The GPS directions were a little off but Elisabeths helpful instructions are right on.

What a sweet review. And I love that you point out how the GPS is wonky on my street. I know someone will find that helpful. I hope you can come for a longer stay in the future.

It was such a nice camping get-away! Not only is the location secluded and beautiful, but they provide all of the camping amenities that one could need, making the packing experience super easy and light! It’s a great option if you want the camping experience but way less of the logistics hassle. Plus the tree tent was a fun, new experience and the hosts, Elizabeth and Mark, were so kind and generous. I highly recommend this place!

The tree tent is a definite must do. Sleeping up off the ground was amazing.
The host was very sweet & kind & too notch on hospitality.
The only downside with this stay would be the hike up & down to campsite from vehicle but theres not much that can be done for that so the rope with lanyards & bucket was a big help as you can attach your things & rope them down half way. No need for much because she supplies all cookware +stove, chairs & tables. A couple hung hammocks were nice & you have access to a creek, fresh water pump, tight rope for kiddos.
Beware the critters (local dog) will scavenge your things if you leave them within reach if you leave or during the night, so just be sure to put your stuff up high enough. The safety net under tent would probably be best for that. Its also good for covering everything if it rains. Just move everything under it to keep dry.
I would give this place a 7.5 out of 10 just because of the couple downsides. Other than that, it was great & a MUST do. I hope to visit a couple of Elizabeths other campsites some day. 😊

Thank you for the review. I'm sorry about the dog stealing food off the table. However, since you have been here, we have added a tent for the kitchen items and personal storage. Look at Le Ree's review & photos to see the update. Also, I will look over my description of the property and make sure that it is very clear that you have to walk up and down the side of a steep hill. Thanks for the clarity.

What a magical experience floating in the trees surrounded by fire flies! Elizabeth and Mark were exceptional hosts. There is so much to do on property, and they are working on more! Their love for the land really shines through their work here.

The suspended tree tent feels like a bouncy tree house. We came during some spats of rain, and the rain fly kept us dry without any problems. The lower level serves as a great "garage" for all your gear. You climb up to the top level through the middle of the tent - we felt like kids again. So much fun!

Elizabeth has thought of EVERYTHING when it comes to her property! Not only do you have a fully equipped camp kitchen and fire pit, but there is also a rocket stove in the earth next to the pit. This is a wet area, but the rocket stove will give you a fire no matter what. The counter with the Colman stove served as a wonderful place to prep our meals.

There is also a full bathroom with a solar shower - super clean and well maintained!

Elizabeth has put a ton of work into making trails that meander through the property, perfect for a stroll - or to go hang out in the community area by the stream. We were able to use fresh tomatoes and herbs from the garden for our meal, and then do our dishes by the water pump! Elizabeth walked us through how to use the pump - easy as pie! There are hidden surprises in every nook and cranny. Tiny fairy gardens and hammocks, and variegated plants!

Elizabeth even has a little rock painting kit, what a fun craft! We left our rocks hidden on site, see if you can find them :) We had such a fun couples-only retreat here, but we will definitely be back with our kids in the future.

Such a relaxing spot for weary travelers. No sleeping on rocks - just floating in the trees!Community dishwashing station. Water is plentiful and no need to worry about sanitation! Everything about this site is so clean and upkept. Painting rocks to leave for future campers to find! There are some real works of art hidden around - definitely not ours. The hammocks between the tent and the pasture are super comfy.

I would like to say that my family and I had a great time here, Elizabeth and her husband was very nice also the property was beautiful. Sleeping in the suspended tent was amazing, we loved the view and The sounds of nature as we slept. We enjoyed cooking over an open flame (rocket stove) we've always wanted to use one. This property has a few other adventures I didn't mention. The walk getting there was Abit strenuous I wouldn't recommend bringing a bunch of gear because the walk was a steep mountain trail granted you don't need to bring much Elizabeth provided mostly everything. Going down was fine but coming up was a bit of a challenge. We had to stop a few times because our two year old and mom was exhausted but we wasn't so energized ourself once we got to the top where we had to park. Definitely a place we would recommend everyone to try. Great place, hosts, and lodging!!

Response from Elizabeth, the Host, on July 7th, 2021

Thank you for your kind review Molly. I'm so glad that you had a good family time and enjoyed our camp. Indeed, all our camps are on the side of a hill and many of the paths are quite steep. We try and make them as safe as possible with ropes for handrails, and semi-groomed mountain paths. Thank you for bringing this to the attention of those who might also be challenged by the landscape. Thank you again for the well thought out and detailed review.
