We will allow up to 3 tent campsites on various areas of the farm.  There is a large central fire pit area, bath house and game areas available to all campers.  The tent campers will use only the central fire pit area which has easy access to electricity and the bathhouse.

There is a covered patio adjacent to the fire pit area that provides a social area with lots of chairs, fans, night lighting and a small refrigerator that we make available to all campers.  This patio has water, electrical outlets and a stainless steel table for campers to use when they would like to set up a small gas grill for cooking.

We converted an old smokehouse into a beautiful bathhouse that features an indoor bathroom with shower that is handicapped accessible - as well as an outdoor shower that is private and a real treat to use.  We have outdoor spigots with both hot and cold running water.

We have a beautiful homestead with gardens, pastures, barns, virgin forest, creek and river nearby. Lots of things to see and do here on the homestead including collecting your own eggs and organic fruit and produce in season, enjoying a golf cart ride over the farm and through the woodland trails provided by the host.

The host will give tours of the homestead and is happy to explain the many systems we have put into place to make our farm as self sufficient as possible.  During various seasons, you can learn or participate in harvesting produce, preserving it and even a cooking lesson or two!

Explore the old barn or participate in some craft or art classes in the Art Studio if they are in session.  Wander the pasture or check out the raised bed garden area and greenhouse.  The food forest is growing well and there is a Rabbitry in the works.  The chickens love to have visitors too.

Pets are allowed as long as they are kept on a leash at all times (the breed and size must be cleared with the farm owners) as we have livestock and semi free ranging chickens.

Our 10 acre farm is conveniently located about 15 miles off of Interstate 95 and easily accessible with a large driveway and gravel parking area.

Our home here in Halifax County is located directly in the middle of the Haliwa Saponi Indian nation and there is a magnificent PowWow within 2 miles of our homestead every year in April. Historic Halifax NC is within a 20 minute drive where the Halifax Resolves were written and there is a historic district that can be toured. The Roanoke Rapid River has some amazing fishing and gentle whitewater rafting opportunities.

Medoc Mountain State Park is very close by where you can enjoy hiking, fishing  and hunting for Big Foot. Beautiful large clean lakes (Roanoke Rapids Lake and Lake Gaston) are easily accessible for swimming, fishing and boating adventures within a 30 minute drive with boat ramps and a day use area with a beach.

The closest town is Littleton where you will find restaurants, interesting shopping, a grocery store and various unusual museums.  This part of North Carolina is full of historic little towns and the rural setting is lovely to drive through to reach your destinations.

As a neurodiverse and unschooling family, Owl Tree Acres Homestead is abundant with opportunities to let go and relax, (re)connect, and to explore and learn about homesteading all-in-one.

We loved the gardens, the rabbits and chickens, Reacher (their German Shepherd pup), the "scary" things (trolls under the bridge, for example), and the conversations.

Gail and Jonathan are both talented in their individual passions, as well as making an income while retired and becoming self-reliant. Brilliant way to live! 👏🏼 Wildly inspiring, but most importantly, as hosts, they clearly love making your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as they can. Both were attentive and engaging, while also mindful of our family time. We loved listening to their stories and learning from them. Plus, our kids left wishing to be adoptive grandkids of Gail and Jonathan. :)

We brought our tent and set up on a comfortable grassy area. The bath house with hot water and indoor + outdoor shower was such a luxury while camping! We ate at one of their picnic tables.

All in all, this Hipcamp was purely delightful. We hope to return and to stay in one of their cabins next time!

A section of the gardensOur daughter was tiring out Reacher with his ball. For a puppy, he was so good with our kids!Lots of places to chill on Owl Tree Acres Homestead! There were several pieces of art throughout the gardens. I loved this tea pot.

An absolute gem! Our family of three truly enjoyed the time spent at this micro farm. Woke up each day to fresh eggs and finished each night with a fire! Gail and Jonathan were great hosts and we’re already looking forward to the next trip. The farm is close to a state park (just a couple of miles) for hiking, fishing, or just cruising through to enjoy the scenery. Truly enjoyed every minute!!

Awesome camping spot, secluded yet not far from I-95. Gail and her partner have created a beautiful homestead, with gardens, chickens, and walking trails. Very well accommodating.

Gail and Jonathan are consummate hosts. From the moment we arrived their effusive charm and warmth enveloped us and carried us to sweet slumbers, pleasant dreams and inspiring days.
They have only just begun hosting campers but their wealth of wisdom born of experience combined with genuine care, excellent taste and commitment to excellence made this one of the best camping/farmstay experiences ever. As their enterprise matures it will undoubtedly be one the 'best of' hipcamps.
