PLEASE NOTE:   Smoky Mountain High STILL AVAILABLE for RV or camper/trailer/popup guests during the winter and always available for tent guests.  But it's cold up here!

Selected by Outside Magazine as their Favorite Hipcamp in North Carolina and a Hipcamp Finalist in N.C. 2020,  2021, and 2022 this is a woodsy, peaceful, solo experience with million dollar views,  30 AMP, water, WiFi  (subject to the vicissitudes of Frontier), fire ring, observation deck, fire pit/ coffee table, picnic table, the use of a gas grill and cooking equipment, designated improved tenting area and unbelievable views on 3 acres  Plus your own docking space on Lake Glenville and the use of our canoe, kayak and paddleboards.  Explore the innumerable trails and waterfalls of the Smokies; fish in the Lake or numerous rivers and streams; swim in the Lake and at the sand beach down the road; rent a pontoon boat; travel the Blue Ridge Parkway; enjoy the shopping and restaurants of nearby Cashiers and Highlands.  Or just chill out.    This is truly a unique camping experience I built for my Class C and continue to improve, far from the madding crowd.  Smoky Mountain High is in a gated "subdivision" that has 60 lots but only 6 1/2 houses - the rest is woods and the only place in your vicinity is my cabin.

BONUS: Fire starter log for the fire ring AND use of  BT/lantern AND battery operated TV with ROKU stick AND walkie-talkies to communicate in and around the mountains AND microwave oven AND high end propane grill AND grilling utensils AND pots and pans.  See Arrival Instructions under Directions for more info. PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW ALL THE RULES!

NEW!  Shower/toilet tent and HOT WATER showers and rain/sun  canopy over picnic table.

EXTRA: Can be combined with the Blue Ridge Aerie Retreat for fantastic intimate family wedding venue.  Inquire for further details.

PLEASE NOTE VERY IMPORTANT:  There are no bathroom facilities and pits or trips to the woods are prohibited so you will need to have or bring a camping john to “pack it out " which you can store in the shower/toilet tent.

ALSO PLEASE NOTE VERY IMPORTANT: All tenters should pitch their tents down in the designated gravel tenting area by the privacy tent and NOT on top of the lot.  You can also pitch anywhere else on the property, so long as your tent is not visible from the road.  This is not my rule: THIS IS THE HOA RULE AND THEY ARE OUT TO GET ME!!!  I DO NOT WISH TO BE GOT.

NOW ALSO AVAILABLE - GLENVILLE HIGH TREEHOUSE (4000') ( Nominated for best Hipcamp Treehouse 2022).

Fantastic place. Great fit for our 19 foot travel trailer. You will just need to plan out your grey and black water tanks since there is no sewage hookup. No biggie.
Great views, secluded and quiet, with a great host. We hope to be back.

Smoky Mountain High was a FABULOUS car-camping site with an unreal view. The site is exactly as described, is well equipped with amenities and has plenty of space for 3 tents. The view is really incredible. We brought two dogs and they had a fantastic time; there's plenty of room for them to play and no traffic to worry about. The lake area was a wonderful place to spend a Saturday and was a fantastic addition to this site. The host is not kidding about the need for a portable bathroom - while it would be a nice addition to have a porta potty on site, we are experienced enough with portable toilets that it wasn't a problem for us. But, do not ignore this instruction. We would absolutely come back!

This is a very nice campsite, with an incredible view. The owner is very responsive and attentive. We loved it there, for the most part. We only have two suggestions for improvement: 1) The situation with trash is not well defined from the get go and could be better addressed. This is bear country and there is not bear-proof storage available or bear proof trash cans. Also, there is no clear information upfront on where to take the trash or what to do with human waste. These points should be better addressed or clarified in the description of the site and arrival instructions. We found ourselves trying to deposit our trash in a variety of places, which was stressful. Finally, on the last evening and night of our trip we were visited by a black bear. The bear was not afraid of us and did not leave immediately when we yelled and made noise. This could be related to the improper management of waste at the campsite as it seems the bear was not afraid of us and knew food was around. We ended up spending one night without sleep trying to figure out what what the bear was doing and if we were at risk, somehow. The bear dumped one of our bins into the ground and toured the campsite for several hours. So, in summary, a few tings could be improved, considering the cost of this site.

Response from Peter, the Host, on October 14th, 2021

Hi Facundo. Thanks for your review and comments. I am certainly dismayed about your bear experience which, as noted in the Rules and Safety, is something that could be expected, although rarely so. With respect to the garbage and waste issues, I would like to reemphasize that (a) the description of the space explicitly states that guests are required to have human waste facilities and " pack it out" as well as the garbage - I do reiterate this when it is not clear from the initial communication that a guest has focused on this; (b) the metal garbage can has a secure cover and a bungee strap as well, although I understand prior guests had not removed their trash as they should have - no bears or other creatures have heretofore ever penetrated the garbage can and as a last resort, garbage could be latched in the woodshed ( as you folks did); (c) the location of the closest garbage dumps and the blackwater dump are denoted in the Rules and Safety section. I'm sorry that this was not more clear in the listing and perhaps some of it would be better delineated in the Description section, but the sectional posting of the relevant information is a matter of judgment and perhaps the best I can do is to emphasize that folks need to focus on the Rules and Safety section. I'll try to beef it up. Good luck and best wishes. P

Smoky Mountain High was the perfect site for our family. First of all, the view from the site is stunning. The kids loved exploring the campsite and we really enjoyed long cozy evenings around the large campfire ring. There are amazing hikes nearby - beautiful waterfalls! Peter was a responsive and very helpful host. The site was well cared for, clean, and had everything you need. It was completely private and perfect for Covid camping. We absolutely loved our weekend and will definitely be back!
