For the true adventure lovers only! We can't adequately describe how peaceful it is to sit at the fire pit while listening to the birds and the creek as the sky turns pink & purple over the Smoky Mountains after an exciting day exploring the incredible outdoor activities we'll point you to.  The campground is more than a mile from the nearest paved road to achieve the most solidarity.  This means you'll need a 4x4 vehicle to access the property.  There are 7 beautiful, flat, separated tent sites on our 10 acre family land. Evenings w/the stars are simply magical! Come & escape from society (no cell reception or wifi).  Our favorite activities (all within a short 10 to 15 minute drive from the campsites) include cliff jumping at our secret swimming hole, rope swinging off the islands on the lake (rent a canoe or kayak from the local marina), hiking the Appalachian trail, whitewater rafting the Nantahala River, and exploring the trails around the campground.  At the end of the exciting day of fun it's time to rest in peace at our secluded campground.  There is a creek running through the property for fresh mountain water and to lull you to sleep (please filter the water to ensure safety).  The property features 2 large communal brick fire pits, a picnic table, a porta-potty, and eventually will have wooden tent platforms.  For now - it's a "backwoods" remote group site only accessible by 4x4 vehicle.  Perfect for the adventurous group!  You're welcome to scour the property for firewood but recommend you bring a hand saw/ax.

Mike is so friendly and helpful! The directions he gave us were very accurate but must be followed to the letter. The campsite is still being developed but is very spacious and private. This is NOT a site for inexperienced campers. But if you like to rough it and are willing to do a little work to help develop the site, it’s a great experience! Our little campers loved collecting wood for the fire and playing in the stream that runs through the site. We would love to come back when we can stay a little longer!

Night splashing in the stream! No hotdogs for Peri. But the fire can warm your pizza on a stick!Crosby likes it too!Room to spread out!

We love to share our #NantahalaVacations properties with like minded outdoor enthusiasts looking to disconnect from cell service, social media, and email for a true adventure and vacation. Being able to go hiking on the Bartram and Appalachian Trails, white water rafting the Nantahala River, jet skiing on the Nantahala Lake, fly fishing the Nantahala River, and then returning to a nice grilled dinner and roasting marshmallows over the fire pit, gazing at the beauty of a stary night sky...these are the kind of things we and our guests enjoy. But, it's hard to do all of that in just one stay, so we're looking forward to hosting you again....soon!

Mike, our host, was very kind and helpful. The site, however, is very misleading. We booked the place by the listings of cliff jumping, private swimming holes, trails, and nearby lakes/creeks. The camping is off in the woods on his family’s property, which has sites of cars and old shacks littered around. The cliff jumping is about 15 minutes down the road. The actual campsites were not cleared at all and there is no level ground. In our opinion, not worth the price to stay in an unmaintained piece of property. The camping area is down a very rough muddy ~1 mile road so you need 4 wheel drive. You definitely need the instructions to the site too, because there is no cell service for a while. We loved “unplugging,” but got very confused.

The road taken to get to the site, 4 wheel drive necessary! The property. The beautiful swimming hole & cliff jump, but was not “private,” as many kids knew of the area. We walked to this lake about 2 miles from the campsite.

Thanks for braving the adventure!!! We have tried to describe in detail the remoteness and seclusion of the property as well as the necessity of 4x4. We're still "in construction" of the site as we described, and really appreciate your feedback. By the end of this week we'll have a nice level site for a large 4 man tent, but the 4x4 driveway will be that way for a good while. We LOVE it that way. It's part of the adventure. As for driving past the neighboor's junk a mile from the campsite - that's also part of the "back woods" experience and we love that country flavor. :)
