Spend a couple nights near my small spring fed pond!  Great mountain views and a serene, accessible environment.  25 minutes from Asheville and less than 15 minutes from Big Ivy national forest.

This site is on the bottom edge of a 25 acre mountain property I have been developing with Cows and an excavator.   You can pitch a tent or stay in your vehicle.  The cool clean pond is great for dipping or bathing!

If you are here a few days, I can show you how to access water from my spring a 5 minute hike uphill.

This site is getting better all the time!  There is a brand new picnic table and more complete privacy screen.  Be the first to build a campfire in the old chimney!

With some patience, up to 25 foot long busses or RVs can be backed into the slip.

No amenities, other than an old, but functional composting outhouse.  Fires welcome.   Please pack out your trash.

It is best if you back your vehicle into the spot.  I can meet you if you give me an eta and help you get situated!

Kevin was very kind and hospitable. We stayed there for 2 weeks, and the spot was perfect for our needs. Quiet, secluded, and nice. There was a picnic table for us to use, an outhouse and even a pond that you could swim in. Kevin checked on us to make sure everything was going well and if he could help us with anything. I would definitely recommend staying here to a friend :)

The pond at Kevin's is a beautiful, serene slice of nature. I ate meals at the picnic table and used the stone fireplace to do a small grilling session. The basic outhouse is conveniently located. I enjoyed being surrounded by the summer symphony of bugs and being under all the stars at night.

The campground is located right next to a gravel road and a streetlamp. The road does not have much traffic (it's a driveway for the surrounding houses) but is loud when it is used. The lamp can be seen as a benefit in some ways since it provides light for part of the campground. The privacy wall provides cover from both the lamp and the road. There's not really good hiking/walking directly from Kevin's place but the Big Ivy park is close by and provides some really great hikes.

Kevin is a kind human and hospitable host :) he made sure to answer any questions I had. You may see him tending to his property or, if you're lucky, flying his hot air balloon in the morning.

Nearby hike at Big Ivy A friend! Lots of jewelweed on the property The pond!

Great place to stay! The pond is refreshing and the site has a flat space for camping. It is private despite being close to the road and a has composting toilet… just what what you need if you’re looking for primitive camping. And it’s near Asheville.

Kevin is knowledgeable of the land and has a nice holistic approach to ecological land development. He rotates cows throughout the site to prepare sites for housing. In addition to other strategies he was kind enough to share. Great vision.

Highly recommend, would stay again.

Kevin was an awesome host, wish i would have had more time to talk to him, but that just means more reason to come back! Nice seeing cows instead of bears near the campsite.

Kevin is a super nice guy. Genuine and very helpful. Property was quite different from the listing, however we did book last minute and I understand there wasnt much time to notify me of how it looked currently. Worked out fine for July 4th weekend, just not curently an ideal place to go when pisgah forest has free camping sites in abundance on most weekends that are more suited to camping than Kevins property. Message beforehand to check on property status.

Staying at Kevin's was a wonderful adventure. His property and project are exciting. It was wonderful to meet both Kevin and his young son Forrest. We slept near a small creek. What a wonderful sound. The smell of sweet mountain grass and flowing spring water were in the air. We felt very welcome and it was evident that Kevin wanted to make sure that we enjoyed ourselves. We enjoyed Roughing it in Barnardsville and look forward to returning. Thanks Kevin and Forrest!

Kevin’s property is nestled into the hills surrounding Asheville, North Carolina and he has found a really beautiful spot. The land is mostly uncleared but he is working on clearing more sites for campers in the future, and has a workable site ready to go already. Kevin has a beautiful dog and two handsome cows, and is more than willing to show you around on his little homestead. For those HipCampers looking for a more rustic experience without sacrificing on beauty, Roughing it in Barnardsville has incredible views and is true to its name.
