I have two full hook up RV Sites at the Dark Ridge Hide Out, the one currently featured has my coach on it for reference, the other is in the corner past the Montana fifth wheel. Photos will be updated soon. It is part of a 20 acre parcel in the Blue Ridge Mountain's on the back side of the Beech Mt Ski Resort in a secluded quiet and safe community with less than a dozen homes in a one mile radius. Away from light and sound pollution. Except for an occasional passing vehicle "and often none at all from 10pm to 6am" all you will hear is the sound of the creek which runs by the site, cricket's and frogs at the nearby fish pond and only the light from the moon and star's in the clear mountain sky and fire flies. It is my home place with a tobacco barn and a big cattle/tobacco barn where I grew up and my parent's made their living farming. The section of Elk River with the Compression Falls "45 ft high" and Twisting Falls which is part of Pisgah National Forest is less than two miles from here, and an old logging road going around the mountain above the river for about three miles to another Falls "Elk River Falls, 65 ft high" is a great place to hike or mountain bike. You will be free to explore and hike any part of my property except the house and out building's. The pond's are full of Trout and Blue Gill fish that are like pet's they love little pieces of bread. You can feed the fish but no fishing.

We stayed only one night which wasn't enough to fully soak up the relaxed vibe at Curtis's Dark Ridge Hide Out. We had a nicely-prepared, full hook-up site with water and 50amp electric located next to a creek. New picnic table, new fire pit. Plenty of wood stacked around the campground. Curtis is friendly and attentive. He grew up in the 1905 farm house that overlooks the 20-acre property and is happy to take the time to tell you about the area and give you driving directions. A word of caution: the hike to Compression and Twister Falls is extremely steep and is better described as a climb. The trail from the parking area (2 miles from the camp site) to the falls is unmaintained and straight down with loose rocks. This is not a walk in the woods. It is a 500-foot vertical descent. Proper footwear is a must -- no flip flops. Bring water and expect at least 90 minutes round trip.

Our weekend at Dark Ridge Campout was excellent. The site was beautiful, and the host was amazing. Curtis was super helpful. He provided tools and wood logs for us to chop our own wood, he brought full water jugs directly to our tents (since the water hook up didn’t come all the way up) and gave us directions to go check out some waterfalls (GO CHECK THEM OUT IF YOU HET A CHANCE!!).
Will try to come back for sure!

Tranquil setting, friendly host, good advice from host on area attractions, starry sky and fireflies make a picturesque bedtime show.

The Dark Ridge Hide Out has so much to offer!!! Visually, you will be more than pleased. Curtis’ location puts you a couple miles from 2 amazing waterfalls, & then you are just a short drive away from downtown Boone. Best of both worlds. & if that wasn’t enough you have the comfort of an amazing host, who goes above & beyond effortlessly.

Our host, Curtis, was helpful and attentive. The view from our site was gorgeous and listening to the flowing, spring fed creek was music to our ears. Our dogs loved being off leash with plenty of room to explore. When we come back to this area, we’ll be sure to hook up here!
Curtis is a fantastic host and the site is great. The property is very well maintained and setup was perfect. There are tables and fire pits and grills. The WiFi was solid and unexpected. Curtis gave us great directions to the waterfalls which are NOT EASY. The Compression Falls are well worth it but the last quarter mile is a very difficult hike down and back up again. Curtis even offered to run into town for anything we might have forgot :) . I would stay here again for sure.
If you have a GARMIN, it lies about how to get there and will take you on terrible roads. Ask for clear directions, there is an easier way to get to the site. We had a very difficult drive there but following Curtis's advice the trip back was much easier. Roads are VERY narrow either way.
Loved the area. Pretty steam, fish ponds and field. Great host! A bit tricky driving our RV there but we did it and it was an adventure.

We absolutely loved our stay! Beautiful, peaceful and close to so many amazing natural attractions. Mr. Curtis was a joy to talk with and we loved hearing his stories of the history of the area. Feeding his pet trout in the pond was also a highlight. I totally recommend camping at Dark Ridge. We will definitely return when we can stay longer!
