This is a quiet little area, a town of a little over 200 people. It is a great place to bike and kayak. This is a quiet little area, a town of a little over 200 people. It is a great place to bike and kayak. Down at the end of Bay Drive is "The Trading Post" where essentials are available for cash only and a boat launch. The wind can be pretty strong but the water is fairly shallow, even at high tide. You will need to secure your belongings well to prevent them from blowing away. When there isn't much wind there may be yellow flies, between May and the heavy August rains. You should be prepared by having bug protection, although the chickens and our skeeter vac help to keep the yellow fly population fairly under control. It can get hot and humid so you should bring a portable/battery-powered fan. We have neighbors with horses close by. They may let you pet them. Captain Luke's fish house N-Seine is down 264 a bit, and he always has fresh fish and the best shrimp you can get in season, or frozen. For a real rugged experience, there are canals that you can paddle in, near an abandoned old moonshiner/logging town (google Buffalo Road and Alligator National Wildlife refuge and paddling). If it's the beach scene that you want we are about 25 miles from the best beaches and within close reach of the site where Orville and Wilbur Wright had their first flight, Roanoke Island (home of the lost colony).

Beautiful sunset !
Heather, the host, was very accommodating and brought us fresh eggs ! The site is right on the water with such a beautiful sunset. The breeze is very strong and brought a lot of relief from the heat. We parked the car strategically to block the wind while setting up the tent. My dog was able to roam around freely in the backyard and hang with the chickens. Great spot. Close drive (40 min) to outer banks and small towns with great seafood and beaches. Amazing ecosystem and very nice hosts.
Very sweet little spot, the rooster was noisy but we knew that going in! The kitties were curious and sweet, and the dog was a darling. Very hospitable, nice cold water available and amenities we didn't even use but were very accommodating. She brought us half a dozen fresh eggs as well! Perfect for the price.
Chickens and great view!
Our stay was amazing! Beautiful property and the homeowners were very nice and welcoming. Incredible view of the bay and they gave us fresh eggs from their chickens for free!
You'll be glad you stayed here!
My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway and had an absolutely incredible time. Heather and her family were so accommodating and gave us tons of privacy. The location is amazing. The views and the water were a great way to start and end the day. This is a great camp spot for animal lovers and families.
