Awe inspiring property
I'm afraid I can't wrap our experience at this wonderful place in words, but I'm going to try! Sonya & her husband were incredible host & people - we quickly felt like friends. The cabin we stayed in brought back so much childhood nostalgia. It was clean, cozy, & the perfect mixture of primitive & "glamping" - with a full kitchen & bathroom + hot water & the best part?! We feel asleep to the rhythm of the river.
The next day we got a bucket of dirt to gemstone hunt, hiked to the two waterfalls on the property, took a dip in the swimming hole, fished (we caught four!), & spent hours learning about he history of the property. They told us about Andy, he's Sonyas grandfather, who started "Andy's trout farm" after coming home from World War II. Andy had a feed store in town & after directing multiple locals & tourist to the nearest fishing spots (in Cherokee) he decided he would make a place for families to fish right here in Otto, NC. So Andy & his son logged some of the property, dug out a place for the lake, & started what is known as Andy's trout Farm . After Andy & his wife, Hazel, passed away - Sonya took over the family legacy. Her & her husband carry on the dream for people to enjoy the wonder of the property in the same way that Andy did. There is so much more history bathing this property, so much so that my husband & I plan to write more about it - this property is the product of a hard working American man with an innovated mind & dream - it was such an honor to stay, play, & learn.
We will be bringing our family & friends for years to come!
Nice cabins but need more cleaning
The area around the cabins is beautiful and peaceful with the fishing farm, the host was also very nice. Only problem was that the house was not very clean, there were spider webs and insect all around the place. With a better cleaning this would be a really nice place.
Feels like home in the best way
Our trip was absolutely perfect. Our time in the mountains was so special thanks to the family behind Andy's Trout Farm and Cabins. The cabin was nostalgic in all the right ways. Our cabin was waterfront and truly magical. When you opened the front door, you were greeted by the rushing water on the river right outside the porch. We sat on the rocking chairs when we woke up and enjoyed the sounds of nature. We enjoyed the fire pit at night and looked at the stars in awe. The rest of the grounds were beautiful as well. The waterfall (20-minute hike) was such a special addition to a full day at the farm. Private, secluded, and really just peaceful. We were the only ones on the trail and it felt like a little piece of home. On our walk, we talked about the thousands of people that have made memories like ours over the years and it made us smile thinking about the legacy Andy and his family have/will leave behind. My friend and I are photographers and we had a field day on the grounds. Other magical moments include gem mining, watching families fish together, looking at the wildlife, being greeted by the sweetest pup, and meeting horses on our way out. Oh and I cannot forget to mention the TWO (yes two) bald eagles we watched soar over the lake before we left to drive back home. It's hard to put the trip into words, but it was really two beautiful days. The staff was so kind and made our stay feel like a familiar trip. We will definitely back again and are already looking forward to it. Thank you friends!
Will definitely be back!
It was great! From the fish to the amenities of the cabins. The whole family is super friendly and the location is beautiful! Will recommmend for my family to come as a getaway.
If you have time, explore the whole grounds. From some interesting buildings, to hidden waterfalls there is definitely adventure to be found at this location! Fish were delicious. To hike the grounds took about 3 - 4 hours exploring everything.
#2 Cabin is one of the best.
One or two things:
*Make sure to bring soap, aluminum foil, saran wrap, and a sponge. Our cabin didn't have that, made cleaning dishes interesting. They don't have a general store with amenities, so make sure to have those on hand.
*I'd probably call to get single rooms, Andy's had bigger couple rooms with a Queen Bed, but those aren't seen. You might want to call to book to see the options available.
We loved our little cabin. Basic, no frills, just how I wanted it. Our porch sat right above the stream and the cabins are spaced out enough to feel private. Each one has its own stream access. Just a reminder, bring charcoal if you plan to grill and kitchen extras like aluminum foil/plastic wrap and a cutting board (especially if you fish for trout and want to cook it at your cabin). Oh, and candles if you want a good amount of light on the porch at night. Solar lights are on each porch but extra light is needed if you want to play cards or something of that sort.
It was an awesome place, I caught fish right out side the cabin and I am no fisherman.
If piece and quiet is what you’re after this is the place you need to be
We have an awesome weekend
Perfect little peaceful escape
Such a cute little retreat from busy life! We absolutely loved our time here - beautiful scenery, peaceful surroundings, a lovely little hike to a waterfall, and rocking on the porch to the sound of the stream. It was so wonderful and we will definitely be coming back!!
