A beautiful appalachian getaway
What a beautiful piece of magic in the midst of Appalachia. My partner and I arrived on the later side of a Saturday evening, and were greeted by the most welcome hosts, Bri and Allison (and their puppy dog Beau). We parked our car next to the farmhouse (where Bri and Allison live) and took a short walk down to the creekside to set up camp. Our tent site was near enough to the car / farmhouse to be convenient, but felt secluded and private (which I really appreciate in a hipcamp stay). We purchased a bundle of firewood which Bri kindly walked down to us, and we put it to use that evening!
In the morning, Bri treated us to a tour of the property, which included a short hike up to the top of a waterfall, and an exploration of an old tobacco barn. We loved hearing about the history of the property, and were so impressed with the care and hard work that Bri and Allison have put into this place.
When packing for your trip, plan to bring your own kitchenware and stove to cook on (the campfire also works well to cook over too!) There is plenty of drinkable water available from the spring. There's a wonderful outhouse + outdoor shower about a 2 minute walk from the tent sites, with a great view of the chicken coop. The drive to this property is well paved and accessible to any vehicle.
We loved our visit and can't wait to be back. This is a perfect place to set up camp if you're visiting the nearby towns of Hotsprings or Asheville, or if you want to unplug from the city for a bit. It was a true Appalachian farm experience. Thanks for the incredible weekend Bri and Allison!
As a first time Hipcamper, I was utterly swept off my feet by the serene beauty of the campsite itself — located adjacent to a gently flowing creek and shaded by a gorgeous forest, it was the perfect, relaxing getaway. Alison and Bri are awesome and gracious hosts, and gave us an unforgettable glimpse into the life of sustainable homesteading. I highly recommend the firewood splitting class and the tour if you’ve ever had an interest in permaculture, sustainability, or just want the opportunity to cathartically chop wood with an axe! 😋
This camp site is so lovely! Sleeping next to the river was relaxing. It's easy to get set up & the property is beautiful. Alison and Bri are gracious hosts! We only stayed 2 nights but are already dreaming of our next stay!
Secluded mountain getaway
Beautiful farm with the coolest ladies in Marshall. I learned so much but was also able to relax. I watched the sun slowly rise in the sky with a guitar in the background. What a beautiful weekend. Definitely recommend booking the tour also.
Be prepared for some windy roads up and around the mountains. Once you pull in, it is so worth it! My husband and I were on our roadtrip honeymoon and this was our favorite spot! The fields, the river, the atmosphere was everything we could have wanted. We set up our tent right by the river and with the running water and cooler evenings we got the best sleep ever! We didn't have cell service, but Alison was great with directions to get us started until we found reception. Everything is about a 30 minute drive, but it was not bad at all! Alison was a great host with communication and set us up with some firewood. Bring some bug spray and watch for ticks. We would absolutely love to come back and stay again!
