We had such a magical little weekend getaway at Randy & Allison's! The sunset from our campsite was incredible, and overlooked a bison farm. The campsite itself was clean and private. We really enjoyed wandering all the trails along their property with our dog. Bonus, they were having a goat yoga class the weekend we stayed and we registered for that as well. Such a lovely little spot that I'm sure we'll return to again in the future!

We loved our stay at ZiegenVine Homestead! The tent site felt close to nature, had privacy, and beautiful views. The land was well maintained, another plus! It was great to experience the farm and learn about the animals, I recommend checking out the shop on site with goat soap made from the goats on the farm.

Allison and Randy are superb hosts. The site had a new picnic table and was well stocked with firewood. The grounds are very well kept and extremely clean. We saw a bald eagle and several deer. We recommend ZiegenVine at the highest level.

Our best Hipcamp experience so far! Randy and Allison are great hosts, very accommodating. We arrived at the farm during a torrential downpour, which thankfully dissipated shortly after we arrived at our camp site so we could set up our tent without getting dranched. Randy offered to bring us some dry kindling, and although I had brought some dry seasoned firewood and fat wood fire starters, the kindling was key to getting a fire going in the damp conditions.

We were at Site #4, which is across the road from the farm and up a fairly steep and rocky/muddy dirt road that crosses a small creek. The site itself is isolated, but still only a 4-5 minute walk to the farm, and another 2-3 minute walk to the outhouse. Which is very nicely done, with a flushing toilet fed by rainwater via a motorized pump, a small sink to rinse your hands, and toilet paper, paper towels, and hand sanitizer are all provided.

The trees around Site #4 were recently damaged by gypsy moth caterpillars, so a number of them have been cut down which opens up the forest canopy, letting in more sunlight. We had a shade structure with us, so this was not an issue.

We were only there from Fri-Mon, so we decided to make it an R&R trip and relax in camp rather than going out to do something each day. But my wife did attend goat yoga, which she loved (got to hold a 2-month old kid goat). She also shopped in the farm store afterwards, where you can buy goat milk soap, soy candles, eggs, meats, stickers, shirts, and so on.

Our dog had a great time sniffing around in the woods and napping. He also got to meet the hosts' dog Gunner, a friendly German Shepherd. When we took our dog to see the goats, he didn't know what to make of them... and neither did they!

Here are my tips for a successful visit to this Hipcamp site:

1) I would STRONGLY recommend you do not reserve Site #4 unless you have 4WD with good clearance (even AWD might make for a challenging drive). My 4Runner handled the conditions without issue, even during heavy rains. Some of the other sites are also difficult to access without 4WD, so I would even consider renting a 4WD vehicle if you don't currently drive one.

2) Site 4 is the most private, but also the furthest from the outhouse, requiring a walk down a steep dirt road, across a shallow creek, and back up steeply to the main road. Not a problem for us (2 middle-aged adults), but if you're with young kids or people with physical limitations, it's something to consider.

3) Site 4 has a few relatively flat places to pitch a tent, but you'll need to be selective. Even then, the ground is very rocky, probably the rockiest I've ever encountered in a forest setting. It may look like dirt and grass, but 1"-2" below the surface is likely to be a rock. It was challenging to get tent stakes into the ground at an angle that avoided the rocks, but we managed. I'd suggest using thin but strong tent stakes, and be prepared to anchor a few of them with rocks if you can't get them into the ground.

4) Don't fear the daddy long legs: they are completely harmless, and although they are arachnids they are NOT spiders. They cannot bite, they have no venom, and they don't spin webs. Let them go about their business and they'll let you go about yours.

5) If you're up for it, take a walk down to the farm late in the day to watch the sunset over the valley.

We stayed at site 1 and the view was beautiful of the valley below! We were provided with a bunch of firewood, cooking grate, and picnic table so we were perfectly set for the night! Allison met us when we arrived and told us about the farm and led us to the campsite. It was a private site with a great view. We were even able to see a beautiful sunset the night we stayed. Would definitely recommend!
