There are a wide variety of campsites and all kinds of choices you can choose from at Bugs In a Jar Farm, Three campsites are "developed" with your own picnic table, fire ring, and barbecue, or you can carve your own anywhere on the 14 acres. You can camp by the creek, by the pond, by the big organic garden, or you can climb the hill to any of several large open sites in the forest. If you do not have your own tent, you can upgrade to our "glamping" Gazelle tent for $15 per night (please add 1 x Gazelle Tent extra per night of your booking - for example, for a two night booking, add 2 x Gazelle Tent extra). Sam will be happy to help haul your gear up the hill in the camp wagon if the hike is a little too steep for you. (Please note that all the campsites are walk-in, with the hillside spots a bit challenging for some folks, and may not be suitable for small children.) The campsites vary from full shady forest to dappled shade. All sites are within a couple minute's walk to the restroom, shower, and community "kitchen," firepit and wifi area.
Bugs In a Jar is about 20 minutes south of Ithaca. The Finger Lakes Trail crosses Prospect Valley Road just down the street, and the area is a well-known biking destination. We are in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, south of the main lakes.
NOTICE: This is a MASK-OPTIONAL campground. The campsites have at least 100 feet between them, but the bathroom and gathering area are communal.
Please note that the $30 campsite fee is for the first TWO people, Each additional guest will be asked to pay $10 per night. Parking is extremely limited, so please try to carpool. Extra cars above and beyond the first one will be charged $10 per night parking fee. Thank you!
I had to change from Instant Book to 24-hour notice to avoid overbooking the developed campsites, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. You can be virtually guaranteed one of the three developed sites Sunday-Thursday nights. There are plenty of other spots we can fit you in on Friday or Saturday night, they just do not have their own picnic table and fire ring. I should be able to get back with you shortly if you leave a message.

Most soundly I slept in months. Relaxing and quiet, with sounds of frogs, birds, and little else.
Both tent sites (which we rented) and tiny houses are on property. Sam is very accommodating and friendly.
This is the closest non-primitive camping to some of New York state's best mountain biking at Shindagin Hollow. Also, only 22 minutes from Ithaca.
We highly recommend and will return.
Sam go’s out of his way to make you happy !

Happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at Bugs in a Jar Farm. Come back soon and bring the family.
This is a great place to camp! Sam is a super host! Very attentive, friendly, he offered us plenty of accommodations. The bathroom is very clean, there is hot water and it’s located within a walk distance. The farm is about 5 min from the highway, 30 min from Ithaca. We went to Robert H Truman state park, but there are plenty of more places to visit around!

So glad you enjoyed your stay at Piney Woods. Come back and see us. Thank you for the dry firewood -- the folks tomorrow night will no doubt enjoy it.
Great camping accommodation. We were in the piney grove site. It’s very secluded despite being in close proximity to the house and other sites. One note though- if you are non able bodied this wouldn’t be a great site for you. This site requires hauling your things up a pretty steep hill. Sam had a tarp over the picnic table and tent area which was super helpful. We didn’t end up using the bathroom at all, but it is available to guests in addition to a community kitchen area which is nicely supplied. Sam was very helpful when we arrived and made sure we had all the info we needed. The site is about a 20 minute drive to Ithaca which was nice.
Sam was great - even fed me some hot dogs and cream corn! Multiple beautiful sites to choose, and an authentic rustic feel. Would recommend!

Glad you enjoyed yourself, amigo. Hope you can come back and stay a little longer next time.
It was a very beautiful and relaxing experience and Sam
was a super friendly and considerate host.
A joyful experience, plain & simple
Our stay at Bugs in a Jar was wonderful - the property was beautiful, and Sam was extremely friendly and accommodating. We've already booked our next trip.
We loved camping on Sam’s farm. It’s a great location just outside of Ithaca, but allows you to experience the beautiful NY countryside. We stayed there three nights. Sam and two other people living on the farm (sorry I forgot their names), were very nice and considerate hosts! Sam left us a large tarp to put under our tent, which helped us stay mostly dry through a big storm. Ron, helped us to retrieve some good dry firewood and covered our fireplace when it rained. All these small details allowed us to have a wonderful visit at the finger lakes region and stayed affordable. We also enjoyed the animals on the farm. Sam’s dog came to greet us every morning with a cheerful attitude! My daughter also loved the cat.
We had a wonderful stay!! The grounds are beautiful, campsites are close enough to the main house/bathrooms to feel safe and some are also secluded enough to really give that “deep in the woods” feel. A win-win!! Donna, Rob, & Sam were extremely welcoming and helpful, and Sancho the dog was such a loving little guy! We also enjoyed taking advantage of how close we were to both Ithaca and tons of surrounding waterfalls & hikes; our hosts helped us out with finding some great spots in the area. We would love to come back and would definitely recommend to others!

We will keep the light on for you. You should come back when the leaves are in full glory.
