Places to see near Wally N.’s Land
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We stayed three nights on Wally's land with our two dogs. We kept them on a tie-out cable, to prevent any possible interaction with the horses.
The campground is a sloping meadow of tall grass and wildflowers (goldenrod, chamomile, milkweed, and others) with well-maintained drives leading up to each site. All the campers when we were there had either a truck or an SUV, but I wouldn't be afraid to drive in with a smaller car with lower ground clearance than these.
The sites themselves were each of generous size. The whimsical names (we stayed at Mars' landing) don't seem to correspond to the numbers that Hipcamp shows for the sites.
It was a great spot for star-gazing, with wide open sky: we were able to see a large number of constellations, planets, and shooting stars! Since the sites aren't wooded, we could clearly see maybe four other sites around us, but we still felt like we had plenty of privacy.
The farm is located not far from the main road, so we could still hear cars driving by at night; but well below the music of the crickets and cicadas. The convenience of being located right outside Minnewaska State Park was well worth the little bit of road noise.
Great campsite with a view!
We loved staying at the Rustic Ridge View campground! We had a great campsite that overlooked the ridge. The Porta Johns were surprisingly clean and Wally was a great host! We’ll definitely be staying here again!
Beautiful property! Wally was easy to communicate with and provided plenty of instructions before arriving. You are free to choose from a number of sites when you arrive. They are fairly spread out though you can definitely see your neighbors as it's an open field. Would definitely recommend.
Wally was really nice and the farm was a lovely place to camp. We were in to climb at the gunks, and it was an easy 15 min drive in the morning. Definitely a nice way to spend a weekend out there!
Easy place to find, super nice farm with beautiful horses - loved waking up to some neighing sounds :). Enjoyed using the fire pit. Wally was super nice. He drove by to say hi with his friendly dog. Not too many other folks were there camping so it felt private.
I would definitely stay at Wally’s again and already recommended his hipcamp site to my friends!
