The Mossy Stones site is in the front wooded area of the farm and has been referred to by one of our first campers as a "sunken living room in the forest".

It offers privacy yet easy access and is the only site within the forests on the farm.

A stone fire ring, a unique metal table and two chairs will be waiting for you. You can park at the pull off  and walk down over the exposed mossy bedrock into your site. While you are only a few yards from your vehicle you will feel like you've stepped into your own forest hideaway. This small site is great for a couple or a few friends tent camping together.  It is an easy walk up through the mushroom forest to the outhouse.

Walk up the gravel driveway or through the mushroom forest to the main field check out our market garden. Depending on the season you will see tulips, beets and onions sprouting, tomatoes climbing up their trellis, melons soaking up the sun or corn and sunflowers waving in the wind. The bees from our colorful hives will be busy pollinating the crops and gathering nectar.

Be sure to check out our chicken coops.  Our hens and roosters play an important role in the sustainable agricultural practices we use on the farm. Our lovely ladies provide us with delicious and colorful eggs each day. Your breakfast at the farm can't get any fresher... sunny side up eggs dripping yolk onto fresh local bread, fresh melons and berries still warm from the sun, sweet honey and local milk in your coffee. A true farm to table meal is possible year round in our beautiful valley! We offer a breakfast basket filled with goodies produced on our farm or by other local growers.

The back of our property is also wooded. If you are quiet you are certain to see birds, squirrels, chipmunks, turkey and deer as you walk along the creek and explore the mossy rocks and tiny waterfalls. If you follow the marked bushwack trail you'll be guided over fallen trees and through breaks in historic stone walls, then across the creek and up the hill you will come out onto the O&W Rail Trail. This 27 mile trail is perfect for hiking, biking and strolling. In some segments it is smoothly paved and others it is gravel. From this trail you can access multiple parks, libraries and museums if you are looking for a long hike or ride.

We are centrally located between Kingston, Kerhonkson, Woodstock and New Paltz and all are about a scenic 20 minutes drive. The NYS Thruway is less than 10 minutes away if you are travelling through.

The Rondout Valley is home to multiple breweries, amazing restaurants, luxurious spas, places to kayak, fish, swim, rock climb... or you could spend your entire visit at the farm reading a good book and enjoying beautiful sunsets.

PLEASE NOTE:

-We are a working farm that uses sustainable organic methods.  There are bugs (ants, ticks, bees, mosquitos, etc) and areas with long grass.  We keep the grass at the campsites short but you will have long grass around you.  That long grass is home to numerous kinds of birds that only live in that type of habitat.  Poison ivy is also possible when out in nature, we do NOT spray any chemicals on ANY of our land.

-The sites are within earshot to the chicken coops, we DO have roosters and you WILL hear them.

-There are wild animals around the farm.  You should store away all food and garbage when you are not at the campsite.  We would like to keep them cautious of humans and not a nuisance!

-On holiday weekends we do have a minimum night stay.

A nice, peaceful and private campsite 9/10! A bit close to the road but other than that it’s a lovely place to stay:)

I really liked the privacy of this campsite and the setup was so cute! The firewood was much appreciated too, and the site even had a first aid kit! The farm is really beautiful and you HAVE to try the breakfast basket. The bread is unreal

Mossy Stones was a great private site! There was parking right near the site and plenty of trees for shade. If you walk a little bit up the road you can see the chickens and hike around the farm. Kara was very accommodating and we loved the breakfast basket add on - you can’t beat farm fresh eggs! There’s also an option to buy wood at the farm so you never run out. I definitely recommend staying here!

Our group of 4 enjoyed the site for one night. We loved how secluded it felt in the woods, with no one else in sight! Surrounded by beautiful trees and other greenery, you’re able to disconnect and enjoy the sound of the birds. Kara organized a roasting chicken, and it was delicious!! One warning as Kara mentions in the description, make sure you and your dog are protected from ticks. I found 3 on my dog while we were there.

Thank you, Kara for sharing your land with us to enjoy!

Very nice host. We stayed at the chicken site in a camper van and it was great. They even provided us with firewood. Really nice spot under the stars. Kara and her husband are great communicators too!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Mossy Stones site; it's nicely nestled in a serene open forest but not too far from parking so it's not a schlep to bring camping gear over. This is a great location for visiting Kingston, or other areas of the Hudson Valley a little further afield. The highlight for us was definitely the hands-on chicken experience... Kara was incredibly knowledgeable about raising chickens and patiently answered all our questions while she showed us around the coops and introduced us to a variety of chickens. And the eggs we collected were delicious!

Stony Rose Farms is really beautiful. The Mossy Stones site is tucked in a wooded area near the front of the farm. The fire pit is against a wall which is great because smoke is controlled upward and the heat can only go towards you. The hammock they installed is super comfortable. Would recommend this as an easy access car camping space for 2-4 people. If I had a larger group of more than 4 people I would recommend one of the other sites further back at Stony Rose Farms.

This was a great campsite for our first full family trip. We were only about 25 yards from the car, which is good for all the gear needed for little kids. Kara had firewood waiting for us and the trees provided good cover from the morning sun and the rain (still use your rainfly!!). The kids loved the hammock and the eggs were fantastic. I was worried with a name like "mossy stones" that the kids would be slipping left and right, but the stones are just a stone wall along the side of the campsite. The campground is the forest floor, nothing dangerous.
