Welcome to the Okama Abon!
Our Fairy Magic Sweet Land of 12 acres in the Catskills is the perfect place to come pray in nature, pitch your tent, gaze up at the stars, and unwind next to a nearby fire. We provide each of our guest with cedar to pray with their fire. A beautiful way to connect with Great Spirit to release what no longer serves you and to receive what will. 🙏🏽This raw, soft, organic land is a home teeming with life. Listen to the birds as they sing throughout the day and into the night. (We call them the fairies.) Look for the curious creatures that walk the earth like the frogs and newts. Open your ears to the sweet sounds of the East Mongaup River; and perhaps take the brief walk down to visit her.
LOCATION: We offer two River campsites for a more private experience. The River’s sounds will soothe your body, mind, and soul. There is a designated path and portion of the River’s grounds for our other campers to visit and experience the River; this section is not a part of your private campsite. The River visiting hours are from 8am to 7pm. Each campsite has their own fire pit. Please do not create your own fire pit.
AMENITIES: We have a single outdoor bathroom right alongside your campsite as well as two outdoor showers, one with hot and cold water and one with only cold water on the land. An outdoor kitchen with a sink, small stovetop, and basic utensils is available for all campers to use. The kitchen is a communal space, so campers must clean up after use. An indoor tent heater to keep you warm is available to rent upon request. Bundles of wood and fire starters are available for purchase. A single quad pickup to bring your belongings down to your campsite as well as a single quad return to your vehicle at the entrance of the land is available for purchase as long as prior arrangements are made.
PROVISIONS: Our land is home to an array of life. With this in mind, we highly recommend that you bring and use a bug repellent, properly check your body each evening before bed, and properly check your body when you return home. Common to camping in the Northeast are ticks. In addition, it is important that you store your food above your campsite in a tree or in your vehicle. As campers in the Northeast, wildlife including bears are a common sighting; so it is imperative that you are not sleeping with the food that you bring. Our purpose is to preserve the land, so we ask that you do not disturb any of the trees or foliage by carving into them, sitting on them, breaking them, or removing them. We prefer to not have alcohol on the land, but if you wish to indulge, keep it at your site, and ensure that the land is kept as it was or better when you arrived. Please drink responsibly and respectfully on your campsite only.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: A few excellent local restaurants include The Pickled Owl, The Red Dot vegan, Nelly’s Latin, and Tilly’s Diner. Hiking trails in Thompson Park, Minnewaska State Park Preserve, and Sam’s Point. Weekly concerts Bethel Woods Center For The Arts, shopping centers, a casino Resorts World Catskills, and Kartrite Indoor Water Park can all be found in the nearby towns of Bethel, Swan Lake, and Monticello. The Kittatinny Canoes alongside the Delaware River in Pond Eddy, Silver Canoe & Whitewater Rafting.
QUIET HOURS: 10:30pm to 7am. The owners will be on the land.

If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
The location very peaceful. We loved being so close to the river! Chantel and Jesse were wonderful and welcoming hosts who clearly care deeply for the land. We loved hearing about the Taino culture and traditions and especially loved hearing their beautiful songs.
Beautiful, special place to spend the weekend. I was drawn to this site because I could feel the strong spiritual energy of the land, and the relationship the caretakers have with the land, through the pics before even arriving. If you are looking for a special place to meditate, commune with nature, connect with yourself - or just kick it, relax, and enjoy friends and family - this is an excellent place to do so. Chantel and Jesse were amazing hosts, and so wonderful to meet and connect with. Thank you to you both!
The hosts were lovely and welcoming. It's a very special place! It's rare to find sites so close to such a large river. It was magical to sleep a few feet from a rushing river. They make it clear that there aren't the usual amenities available in a state campground -- like plumbing or flush toilets -- but it was a sacrifice we were more than willing to make.
Our stay at Taino Woods was an incredibly beautiful weekend. The sounds of the river are soothing to fall asleep and wake up to. Chantel and Jesse did everything they could to make us feel welcome. Their connections to the land and commitment to providing spaces for spiritual healing make this unlike any other camping spot. If you are looking for somewhere to deepen your relationship to the plants, animals and water of this land, this is the spot for you. Definitely book the quad as it is a challenging walk down to the campsite. Thank you Chantel and Jesse! We will definitely be back.
My first camping experience and the camping site by the river was dreaming. It was verg easy to arrive from westchester to the camping site. I felt very safe in the town. We had privacy and an amazing rustic set up. We swan in the river ans cook and had a very nice family time. I stro gky recoomend to pay for the drive to bring your things to the setting because it is a 10 minute walk .. i wnjoyed learning more about the taino culture. I would like to go to Chantel ceremony soon. I felt very relaxed and in peace after this trip. Camping by the river is everything.. you wont regret it!
Beautiful and sacred land
My friends and I had such a beautiful stay at Taino Woods. Chantel told me it would be magical and she was absolutely correct. We slept by the river and enjoyed the peaceful sounds of the water flowing day and night. We were also lucky enough to have chosen a weekend that Chantel and Jesse were leading in a sweat lodge. A weekend we will never forget. We were very happy with their hospitality and the care they take of the land. We look forward to returning again! Thank you both so very much for the beautiful experience. Love & Light!
Beautiful stream next to the site. Water is so clean and there are clayfishes to catch for kids . My friend still talks about how wonderful little stream it was. You need to use atv service to bring your stuff down from the parking lot. Its a rough stiff walk to the site. It was all unique and added experience to our camp.
Relaxing peaceful goods vibes
It was Amazing ! My Girlfriend and I first time camping and we choose the perfect Location. Right by the river we saw so much life, beautiful mushrooms everywhere. Little baby lobsters In the river when you look closely right on the rocks under water. Chantel and Jessi were amazing hosts thanks for allowing us one your land and thanks for all the knowledge and help you made our first time camping a breezes. Make sure you guys book the ride to transport your items to and from the site! Can’t wait to see what grows here in the future !
The hosts and sites are perfect
We had such an incredible experience staying at the Taino Woods Sanctuary. Where do I start? Let start with the camping site itself and then move on over to our amazing hosts. Okay, so our spot was located right on the edge of the river. So all day and all night you had the sounds of the river to soothe you while you forest bathed in the day and while you slept at night. The tree's canopy provided protection from direct sun and also provided protection from the rain. It rained practically all weekend and we barely felt it. We had our little fire pit, a perfect place to set up our tent, and Chantel and Jessie provided the rest.
Now Chantel and Jessie are such gracious hosts and even more important, they are beautiful souls. They built this incredible space and community to live, celebrate and teach others about the Taino people and other indigenous cultures. We were able to witness songs in the morning and prayers in the evening. Chantel and Jessie are so open to talking about their mission and if you are of Taino blood or not, you can't help but want to listen and want to get involved. As someone who wants to know their Taino ancestry, I can tell you that this is not the last time that I'll be staying at this camping site, I also want to get more involved in the ceremonies that happen here.
Thank you Chantel and Jessie for the incredible experience.
