We had a fabulous time! The property is peaceful and quiet and we enjoyed cooking on the stone fire pit. The property is not accessible unless you have an SUV, and if you are looking for a sign to get off-road tires, this is it. Douglas is a great host, he greeted us upon arrival and shared tips of where to go swimming and also about the pig roast at the local apple orchard. We would love to come back again soon!
Unfussy + secluded
Captain Doug was a treat. He met us at the entrance to his property and swiftly led us to our campsite. The woods really are just THE WOODS, so bring yer bug spray! (and literally anything else you can bring to deter them skeeters because they're pretty bad). Otherwise though, it was exactly what we hoped for: secluded, unfussy, close enough to hikes and other outdoor activities, convenient, simple, nature, with the added benefit of a porta-potty. Can't go wrong....Coyotes abound!
Douglas was able to accommodate us last minute and welcomed us upon arrival. He sent us a lot of information about where we can hike and nearby activities. Private site surrounded by trees- site had a fire pit and a platform. Happy with our first camping experience! Thank you Douglas!
Rifton hidden gem!
A treasure! Our secluded site and the vast property, left us wanting nothing more. We spent our stay exploring the trails, enjoying the solitude and peace of the land.
Our host also set the tone for our retreat. Not only was Douglas incredibly responsive with all correspondence leading up to our visit, he couldn't have been more amicable upon our arrival. He gave us the pick of two camp spots, left us with (5)gal of well water and made sure to let us know that the canoe by the lake was free for us to use, at our leisure. His help loading into our site was also appreciated (his all terrain jeep carried all our gear in), but even more so, as a rain shower synced up with our arrival time. The hosts spirit might be summed up with this brief anecdote: When we got around to exploring the lake, Douglas happened to be on the water in his kayak. He paddled over just to ask us how our night was. He pointed out the wildlife we might see along the banks then helped us get the boat in the water, took a picture of us in the canoe and sent it to us as a keepsake.
The owners generous spirit and the wild and varied terrain on his 120 acre property left us ready for another visit.
Stayed there from Friday until Sunday morning. Angela was an incredible host. She met us at the entrance to the property to show us the way and even have us a ride to the site. She and Doug could not have been nicer and were happy to help us find activities to enjoy during our stay. Would absolutely recommend.
Ready for round 2, let’s go back!
Doug’s property was utterly magical! Every site was private, clean and well cared for. From the moment we drove up in pitch black of night to the moment we drove away, we were graciously greeted and treated with compassionate guidance. Doug and his assistant, Jason, were more than helpful, safe, and informative. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat, look no further! Jason has a wealth of knowledge about the land and community and is passionate about sharing this with the guests. We cannot wait to go back!
Great campsite for catskills hikes
Douglas’s land offers a perfect spot to set up camp and using as starting point for any Catskill hike. He met us when we arrived and showed us to our site. The land was flat and not rocky which made it easy to pitch the tent. There was a fire pit and a jug of water at our site. It was generally quiet although sometimes we heard noises from the neighboring site which we didn’t mind. Douglas texted us throughout our stay and provided us with directions / instructions on what to do nearby which was a nice touch. If you want to bring your car right to the campsite just make sure that you have a jeep/SUV.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and hope to be back.
