Mixed feelings on my 3 night stay
I had mixed feelings about my 3 night stay at Valley View Camp. I had the place to myself for all 3 nights and chose to sleep at the #5 Miami Beach site.
Pros: The location is excellent, super convenient to Watkins Glen and with a nice view of Shequaga Falls (Montour Falls). Great for sunrises and sunsets. The host provides easy access to firewood (large, medium and small logs for 1 per $1, 2 per $1, 3 per $1; not seasoned and open to the elements). A set of 3 fire pokers were at each campsite. Price is low.
Cons: The whole site is on a set of rolling hills. They are pretty gradual but I'm not sure any of the sites have flat spots so you have to pitch your tent at a slight angle. The grass had not been mowed in a long time... It looks like it was mowed at the beginning of the season and not since then (I'm sure it is a pain to mow it... it was over a foot tall). The port-a-potty could use a refresh. There are some steeper sections which I would not want to drive over if it had been raining. Light to moderate road noise.
All in all I liked my visit but I don't think I would stay there again.
Beautiful view! Chris responded quickly when we booked a campsite last minute which we were very thankful for. We stayed at one of the campsites closest to the entrance as the only car I have is a low riding mini cooper (which meant that we were not able to get very far into the property) but the view of the waterfalls and the valley was perfect. One note is to not depend on the port-a-potty as it could use emptying. If you really desire a proper bathroom there is a walmart not too far away.
Great view into the valley and the falls. It's very basic and in my opinion needs a little bit more work. We found a lot of garbage around our side and took it with us. The uneven ground and high grass could be an issue for some campers. I don't understand why the minimum stay is 2 nights except it gives more money. 25$/day sounds better than 50$/day. I needed one night but paid for two. For that money it would be great to have a covered table. All in all still a nice place. I would come back. Bring a tarp if you stay longer
Perfect camping for race weekend
The view is like no other, and the site was perfect for a quick decision of staying down in the glen for race weekend. The area was quite and far away from all the busyness of the crowds, yet not too far that we could still enjoy fireworks going on at the track even after arriving later in the day. The sites themselves are a bit buggy and the porter potty was a little dirty, but for the price, it’s nothing an experienced camper like myself hasn’t seen before.
Sunsets for days
Chris’s camp was so awesome. We really lucked out with the weather and the views were incredible. He has all kinds of extras… tiki torches (byo fluid), tools for fires, sitting areas, and a porta potty. It was secluded and so peaceful and we cannot wait to go back.
Tip for your visit… bring a canopy 😉
The view was AMAZING and the site was very quiet and peaceful. I would recommend that campers have AWD because the drive is very steep. The latrine needs to be emptied, ASAP please!!
Such a great site
Chris was an amazing host. The sites was good, and he was able to mow the tall grass early on to make it more enjoyable. He was very responsive and gave us a great experience. The firepit areas were beautiful, the port-a-potty was useful, and there was a ton to do in the area. We stayed for 6 days and never ran out of activities. The price was so low for the experience we had. I would love to come back!
