Tucked into a meadow in a forest clearing deep in the Catskills, this special land has a variety of mature trees, open meadows with ferns and dogwood stands, remnants of an old apple orchard, a large swimming pond, trails across old rock walls and mountain streams through gently sloping topography, and abundant birds, frogs, newts, and other wildlife.

The off-grid site is close enough to the house and parking area to have convenience, but far enough—and hidden out of view—so it offers real privacy. (About a 4-minute walk from your private toilet/supply/storage shed by driveway.) Tent area has cleared pads for two small tents. Location is far enough from things that you can walk a minute into the woods and feel lost to civilization, yet only two miles of paved road from downtown Windham and all that the cozy resort town has to offer.

Makes a great basecamp for exploring the rest of the Northern Catskills, or a hideaway to stay and get lost in. Hike miles of trails and old logging roads in the Elm Ridge Wild Forest, starting literally steps from your campsite. Swim in the large spring-fed pond, or just watch the colorful koi swim. Sit around the fire and reflect on the day’s adventures. Or just take in the wide-open views of distant mountains and starry skies.

Note: the only "Kitchen available" (Hipcamp's wording) is a grill over firepit. Also, toilet is a bucket-style dry composting toilet with urine diversion inside a protected shed. Camp site is a short hike along private trails from parking/shed area. Depending on weather/season, it's sometimes muddy.

Timothys land is stunning and he was such a warm hearted, welcoming host. He greeted us upon arrival and gave us a tour of the property, offered us tips on what to explore in the area and was extremely generous. The camp spot is super private and the pond was a lovely swim spot. I would highly recommend staying here if your looking for a little catskills getaway!

My partner and I loved this camping site! Tim was an excellent, attentive host. He truly made us feel considered and cared for. The views of the mountains from the pond are breathtaking. We highly recommend the experience of taking the rowboat out on the pond!

We had a beautiful stay at Tim’s. His property is backed up to protected land that is absolutely gorgeous. Tim also seems to have a wealth of knowledge about the local flora and fauna and took us foraging in the woods. Not much more satisfying than foraging for your own dinner!

Definitely come stay at this property! It has two ponds (one big, one small), large goldenrod fields, multiple apple trees, wild thyme growing all over the grass, and lots of wooded areas. It's idyllic and made me feel like I was in the Shire.

Timothy was there to greet me as soon as I arrived. He promptly gave me a tour of the property and freedom to choose where I wanted to pitch my tent since I was the only camper that weekend. He's set up a nice shed with a composting toilet and potable water for showers/cooking, etc. There had been lots of rain when I was visiting so the trails around the property were very muddy. Timothy had thrown sawdust and planks down in places to help ease travel. Thankfully, I had a pair of rain boots that just made tromping through the mud fun. It's obvious that Timothy puts a lot of work into maintaining the property.

I camped next to the firepit that's closest to his vegetable garden. All the tent pads are level and soft! Timothy built up the pads with wood chips and sawdust so they feel springy under your step. Nice touch! My tent site was equipped with two hewn wood benches. The benches can be flipped so you have a flat side to use as a low table. I was given more than enough firewood and kindling to last my 3-day stay.

I purchased the guided hike up Mt. Hayden and was not disappointed. Again, the mud made the hike more adventurous. Timothy showed me a pond where a beaver is hard at work (sadly, no beaver sighting but it was marvelous to look upon his works). Timothy has a great knowledge of the flora in the area. I learned a lot. Definitely do the hike.

All in all, the trip was a huge success. I highly recommend the property and its host, Timothy. I will definitely be back! Oh, if you need a break from camp food, go check out Catskill Mountain Country Store in Windham. It's like a Cracker Barrel but the real deal. The food was delicious and their numerous adopted cats were great breakfast buddies. One cat actually sat in a chair next to me the whole time I ate my breakfast. Pretty rad.
