Premium and exclusive natural camping. Our property is located on the beautiful Karuah River in the picturesque Monkerai valley. The river is a fresh mountain river running from the foothills of Barrington tops. Most of the year the river is lovely and clear and ideal for swimming canoeing floating on airbeds fishing photography or just enjoying. There is also some really nice bike riding and walking opportunities around the valley although you will be on gravel roads and we are only 25 min drive from the popular Dungog mountain bike park.

You are likely to see a variety of birdlife other wildlife including black and white cockatoos ducks some lizards, occasionally wallabies, echidnas and if you are lucky maybe a Platypus.  You will have this campsite completely to yourself with no other camper near you . Privacy, tranquility, relaxation and just enjoying nature is waiting for you.

After good summer and Autumn rain there is green grass everywhere the campsites are perfect for having a campfire and bring your telescope as you’ll be amazed at the stargazing at night with no light pollution.  Ideal for self-contained vans, camper trailers, medium motor homes, tents or swags, its up to you. There are no toilets so only suitable if you have your own toilet facilities and take away all waste when you leave.

Gloucester Dungog and historic Stroud village are  nearby as well as Barrington Tops National Park.  We have only recently offered our property for guests and we are sure you will enjoy it far more than a crowded traditional caravan park or campground.

We do now also have some limited bags of firewood for sale at $20 a bag. These are heavy bags of very dry local Hardwood. You can also collect firewood along the river banks yourself or bring your own firewood in if that is easier and more convenient for you.

An awesome private campsite on this beautiful property right by the river. Stunning views and a great location. Chris was extremely welcoming to our whole group and took the time to show us around the property so we were able to pick the best spot, and he even gave us tips on things to do while staying in the area. Being the only campers on the property made it feel completely isolated. Amazing experience to wake up to the sounds of the animals and rushing water of the river. Can not recommend this place highly enough. We’ll definitely be back!

We spent the weekend at Chris's farm, it was a peaceful relaxing and such a beautiful spot. Chris was super generous with his time and showed us the property, helped us feed his lovely cows - snowflake was our favourite, and gave us some history of his families time there. The spot Chris chose for us was right beside some rapids with rolling grass to the water, and was perfect for our daughter who cant swim yet and our Labrador. Perfection if you like your camping away from the crowds. A pre made fire, and clear skies, incredible stars, capped off a perfect weekend. Many thanks Chris for your country hospitality - see you again soon

Not often leave reviews as comments, but we all thought Chris was a great host and he was super helpful and attentive throughout the booking process as well as our stay. We loved everything of this charming farmland, running creek, strolling cattle, beautiful landscape, starry night, etc. We will definitely come back and revisit in the near future!

Hi Roger, it was really nice to welcome you guys up to our farm and I’m so pleased that you did enjoy yourself. I know you didn’t have any luck fishing but some recent guess reported catching eight bass in the stretch of river just along from where you are camping so they are there. Anyway if you want to read up on bass fishing (LOL) and come back sometime to try again that would be great. Cheers Chris

An unexpected change of plans had us booking last minute and we are so glad we did! This camp was beyond delightful and Chris was an exceptional host from initial enquiry through to the last day. Our camp area was next to the most splendid water hole with plenty of room for a camper trailer and a caravan. There were 2 Bass caught and 1 Platypus spotted over the weekend and if that all seems to much then relax in the hammock under the trees and watch the amazing birds above just before you light the campfire for the evening. We are so confident you will love this camp we have already rebooked again!

Hi Nicole, thanks so much for your lovely review. I really enjoyed meeting all you guys and sharing a beer with you by the river. I’m so pleased you enjoyed yourself and that you have booked again to come back and spend some more time on the farm. Look forward to seeing you back up on the farm soon and whilst you will be a bit late for bass fishing at Easter, I hope there’s more platypus to see. Regards Chris

Perfect place to relax on a intensely hot weekend, great swimming hole and plenty of shady trees. Loved being able to spot platypus and fish in the river.

Response from Chris, the Host, on December 6th, 2020

Hi Andrew, it was lovely to meet you guys and I’m pleased you enjoyed yourself despite the intense heat. It’s always best in the river when the weather is like that. And your sighting of the first elusive platypus for nearly 18 months was just so nice to hear about and to see the video. Cheers and thanks again.

Three days of peace, swimming in clear cool water and reading under the pines shading me from the summer sun. A beautiful site. It was private and secluded. Chris was lovely, grew up here so lots of knowledge and once he knows what you want from your stay happy to accommodate. I’m looking forward to returning. Could get 3G (with Telstra) if I walked around, so could text out..for those who need to know.

Response from Chris, the Host, on December 12th, 2020

Hi Alison and thanks for your feedback. Was lovely to meet you and I’m really pleased you enjoyed your stay at the Platypus pool. As I explain to you since the big drought last summer the platypus seem to have disappeared from the river which we were very sad about but great news......Some people camping in the exact same site over the weekend have seen a platypus a couple of times now which is just awesome news. This adds to another group a few weeks back who were staying in a different campsite on the property and also had a sighting.. Would love to see you back here any time suits and I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip up to Byron. Thanks again. Chris
