What was once the Lewis family dairy farm on the top of the mountain, the remaining 40 acres of private native forest is bordered by the Heaton State Forest and the Watagan National Park. The top corner of the property is diagonally opposite Watagans HQ and extends approximately half a km down Bakers Rd toward Hunter Lookout and Half a km back along Heaton Rd. It’s on the pathway of the Great North Walk. 5 kms to Boarding House Dam. From our private native forest enjoy bushwalking in the National Park, your own private camping spot, hiking, bird watching, mountain biking. Campfires permitted BYO firewood. No amenities - you'll need to BYO everything including a camping toilet and drinking water and leave no trace. Access suits 2WD but in wet weather, this is questionable - contact us for info. Camper trailers & tent campers are ok, but not so sure about caravans and motorhomes depends on your driving ability and confidence. Tall Timbers site has great access for all types of vehicle access. Dogs permitted but only those that are sensivite around wildlife are welcome.

Tall Timbers - Site 1
Nice bush setting -shame about the
Unfortunately I attempted to access the site from the directions on hipcamp and this was a mistake. The dirt road was supposed to be closed by council due to a landslide but the barriers had been removed. The road was pretty bad and I was in an xtrail towing a poptop caravan. It got too bad to continue so at a slightly wider section of road I had to unhitch to turn around and go back. I was in touch with owner who informed me you could access site from other direction. I did this with no problems. On arrival was a bit disappointed in the rubbish left around the site. (I collected a full garbage bag (and took with me when I left). Not sure if it was from previous 'paying ' campers or just people who on passing, decided to camp there. There were no signs at site saying it was private property or anything , but I did notice at the other 2 sites there were signs up. Maybe people have removed them ?? I had to cut my stay short by 3 days because of bushfires. A passing ranger advised me to pack up and leave. On leaving saw that the roads were all closed to enter the area due to the fires. I would have been ok but better to be safe than sorry. It was a nice spot but right on the road and as I was there for a long weekend there were a lot of trail bikes and 4 wheel drives going passed. I had to tell a couple of people on bikes not to take the small trail next to the site as was private property so I assume when no one is camping there it must get used occasionally- for camping etc.

Old Plane Crash Site 3
If you are looking for a quiet location this isn’t it. It’s right next to a busy trial road that had constant motor bikes and cars going up all hours of the night. Also the adjacent camping spot number 2 had some sort of rave with dance music that was blaring non stop from 7pm-7am. Not even ear plugs blocked the music out. After contacting the host serval times we were told we just had to deal with it and there’s nothing they can do. I’d also suggest that the host improve the location map and maybe put some signs up as it’s not east to locate. Given we booked this place in the hope of a nice quiet location to unwind we were very disappointed and won’t be recommending this to anyone.

Loggers Landing - Site 2
Quiet spot
It was great to have space and no camp with people on top of each other as often happens in the Wattagans. Walking distance to Hunters lookout (15-20mins) and a long drop.

Old Plane Crash Site 3
Overall enjoyed the location, however there was quite a bit of rubbish left by previous campers. Also had cars driving through camp to see plane wreck. Other than that it was quiet and peaceful You will need to be prepared for the leeches too
