Burroman Flat is roughly 50 acres with 1km of Clyde River frontage. These sites suit smaller groups (please see our other listing for larger sites). The river is permanent fresh water and has two small waterholes at the upstream end and a much larger water hole on the downstream end. In between are shallow rapid sections, small pools and endless exploring.
The banks range from moss covered rocks and grassy sections to shady water gum forest, casuarina trees, river peppermint and blue gum trees.
Campsites are spread along a grassy strip that runs approximately 700 meters along the edge of the flat with tracks that go down to the river. The campsites are grass covered in a strip of open forest with native shrubs that add privacy. There is lots of space and shade.
To the eastern side of the camp is the open flat and Boulder Mtn. Burroman Creek forms the boundary on the northern side and meets the river at the upstream water holes. The River Road runs north south on the eastern side of the flat.
The flat itself is ancient, and very high. The last time it flooded over was in the 70's. The flood in February 2020, just after the fires was 17m and didn't cover the whole flat - the area where the camp sites are did not go under water. The tracks down to the river from the camp area are steep - particularly at the southern end. The least steep are at Site 1 and another near where the toilets and water cell are.
This is a very beautiful section of the Clyde River.
Kids 16 yrs and under stay for free!
The flat and camp sites are normally 2WD accessible. When the conditions are wet it becomes challenging and if really wet accessible only by 4WD.
There is Telstra reception (usually a bar or few) on the flat. For Optus and Vodafone it's less reliable - you may get signal - but if not, on the rise at the road just up from the gate is mostly pretty good. Alternatively about 1.5km from the gate going towards the old town is a high point on The River Road that looks south west. This is one of the better spots without climbing a mountain..

The whole family thoughly enjoyed our stay at Burroman Flat. We loved exploring the river side. The views and scenery were absolutely breathtaking.
Our camp-site (#2) was sheltered and we had plenty of room. Each site has something special about it. There are sites that are bigger to accommodate bigger groups as well. We loved having our own fire pit and being able to collect the dead branches and fire wood around the place.
The river is absolutely breathtaking. It's so clear, although too cold to swim in during our stay it's so peaceful just to be near it. The climb down can be a little steep but we found the entrance between sites 1 and 2 to be the best.
There are 3 port-a-loos to use that a very clean and very handy.
The property itself is very well maintained and Matt's directions are very easy to follow.
We cannot rates Matt's property high enough, we enjoyed our stay so much that we will be back amd we will be telling all our friends and family about it.

This was a beautiful spot right in the Clyde river. It’s a bit remote and easier for a 4wd to access, but the host scoped out the entry roads and gave good directions for the easiest approach. The camp sites are lovely and pretty well separated for some privacy. Caught a nice dry gap in the April rains, worth bringing some dry wood along, but there’s dead firewood around too.
We had a great time. Site 4 seemed to be the most private and we loved it, although all sites were well spaced out with plenty of greenery between. It's a pity the river was too high for swimming as it would be the perfect way to spend the day.
Matthew was a great host, even reaching out in the days before to give an update on road conditions. The potable water on site was very appreciated also, thank you. We brought our own portable toilet but it was good to see facilities also. If you have kids I'd recommend bringing a portable toilet too, or if at one of the more distant sites (4+).
Overall a great stay and we'll be back when there hasn't been quite so much rain!
Was an excellent site. Really space for bigger groups and beautiful surroundings! Host was easy to contact and very helpful. Would recommend.
I would highly recommend to anyone. Lovely spot by the river, plenty of space and freedom.
Matthew is extremely responsive and helpful, can’t thank him enough for a lovely time.
Peaceful, simple, bush camp. Plenty of shade to relax in but plenty of sunshine to charge up the batteries. Beautiful, fresh Clyde River to swim in. Access best near site 1 (this is where all the photos are from). Nice drive to property, good directions and communication. Limited reception at camp which is great or take a walk up to road where it's fine. Did a fun bicycle ride to the berry farm and then shallow creek crossing. Good fitness required. Locals are really friendly. This was our first hipcamp experience and it met our expectations. We are finding it more and more difficult to find peaceful camps in national parks due to disrespectful morons, so this was refreshing. Thankyou Matt for the experience.
Beautiful spot, very quiet and peaceful. Toilets were very clean. The walk down to the lake is a very steep 40m narrow dirt track, which was fine, but we were under the impression that the lake was at the same level as the campsites which was definitely not the case. Nevertheless we really enjoyed our time here and would definitely recommend it to others.
