Lush high desert river oasis nestled in a fertile valley in the Carson National Forest right between the fiery expanse of Taos and the rolling colorful formations of Abiquiu. Peaceful & private 3 acres right by the river at the edge of a little quaint town called La Madera (145 people, no shops)- just 6 miles to the healing mineral Hot Springs of Ojo Caliente.

17ft remodeled cosy Vintage Camper with kitchen and bathroom. Sleeps two people, and one child in a bunk bed. With picnic table, bench, shade sails and fire pit. Lovely quaint mountain views! Very cosy nook, private. Currently not hooked up to electricity or water yet. (in progress) Guests can drive right up to the camper.

Guests may also use the bathroom in the main house.

+++ 6 miles to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. There you will find the best restaurant in the area, with locally/organically farmed produce. Very yummy!

The land is naturally & beautifully wild- it is not a manicured campsite. The dirt rd down to the property is best suited for higher clearance vehicles, but is manageable for city cars.

Waterhole, Waterfall and climbing sites near by, as well as Plaza Blanca, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch and the Taos Gorge are 30 mins drive away.

*No cell service in the greater area. WiFi reaches all the way to the river/and trailer sites and allows for WiFi Calling: that’s a setting in your phone that enables phone calls & texts beside usual internet access.

Beautiful land, a little overgrown

has mixed feelings towards this listing.

The land is gorgeous and the location is closed to Ojo Caliente and other beautiful sites like waterfalls. The host and friends were all so helpful and friendly. I have mixed feelings about coming back because personally I’d prefer a camper that is hooked up so that I have my own kitchen and bathroom, overall a more private experience. However this was a choice we made ourselves and it is a beautiful spot. One piece of improvement would be maybe doing some landscaping in the summer just so we wouldn’t have to bend down and go through bushes to get to the camper.

Hi there Terese, thanks for ur feedback. Yes, as the listing stated the camper is not hooked up yet. I try to outline everything transparently so people can make informed choices/bookings for themselves. Because it is quite far from all amenities on the land, and therefore very private, it isnt a quick hook up... solar and septic are in the workings for the future. I decided to offer the space to campers as is because it's beautifully enchanting otherwise... and there is access to a bathroom in the house. Regarding landscaping; I keep the area mowed and trimmed regularly. I had cut everything before leaving to Europe- u arrived two weeks after my departure while I was still gone. When asking my helper if the area needed some trimming (before ur arrival) he thought it was alright. Judging from afar I can only summize that because the Monsoon has brought a lot of rain this year growth is exponentially catalysed. It must have grown a lot in those two weeks since I left. The land is very lush. Best wishes to you!

Beautiful place! Susanne was very accommodating. Great hiking and waterfall nearby. I’ve never heard so many different birds, it was like a private chorus every morning. Highly recommended.
