A taos junkyard experience?
Nearly impossible to distinguish the “campsite” from the surrounding junk yards.
We drove several miles down washboard roads weaving in and out of junk yards to... a fire pit in the middle of a junk yard.
Literally had to move debris out of the road to pull into the site...
We never found the amenities listed. We did not wade through the building materials and garbage surrounding our site to investigate further... just don’t go here expecting water or a usable composting toilet.
Dogs rummaged around our campsite and got into our stuff... so... wildlife?
We did not return for our second night we paid for. We would not have stayed the first night had we not just driven 7 hours and the sun was setting. Just go to Luna Mystica. It’s not as private but it’s 3 miles away and safe and clean.
Bryan was excellent! I arrived pretty late so finding it at night can be tricky--his directs are great but you really need to pay attention. And he was in perfect communication with me until I got there.
The drive in itself is so beautiful. And just like he says the campsite was S-I-L-E-N-T. I'd forgotten what quiet sounded like and how much I needed it. The weather is just perfect this time of year. I loved the compost toilet. I would have preferred to spend a little time wandering around the area but arrived late and left early--his place was the perfect stopover.
We drove to the site and decided that we should not stay there. The site would be much better with more upkeep and trash removal, but we did not feel comfortable staying there, especially with dogs who would roam and get into things. The site was right next to the end of the dirt road. The road was also pretty bumpy and would be best served with an SUV. Bryan was responsive when we reached out, but this was not a great fit for what we were looking for and took our chances elsewhere.
Great views, dog friendly
Bryan and beau where super friendly, and made me feel comfortable right away. The directions confused me a little bit because the road you turn onto is “Montoya rd” but in Bryan’s instructions it’s says Martinez rd. Other than that the site was awesome! It was private, I felt safe, there were trails on the property which were awesome, and Carson National Forest was near by. The dogs loved being off leash the whole time and the views were awesome!
The only thing I was not prepared for was the wind, just a heads up! I used rocks to keep my tent from blowing away.
Perfect little spot to catch the sunrise and sunset on the mountains. I came to Taos to do some biking and Bryan directed me to some sweet trails close to the camping area. Definite bonus! The site is the perfect spot to get some peace and quiet away from the city.
Close to taos
Staying at Bryon’s property was a very unique and positive experience. His building is under construction and completely off grid. I think it should be featured on one of those shows. The area has places to do a little jeeping which was fun. I nipped into Taos a few times to site see and eat burritos. There is hiking all around and The Gorge Bridge which is spectacular! Bryon was super nice and I feel the value was great!
