"The Little Goat Outpost" is located off a Forest Service Road in the small rural village of Tres Piedras (Spanish for "Three Rocks"), NM, about 45 minute's drive Northwest of Taos. Our lovely 2 acres sits at 8,176' in treed, high desert terrain, with a sweeping vista of the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

About a 5-10 minute walk down the street and you'll find a trailhead that will take you up into the foothills of the Tusas mountains through the Carson National Forest. About 1.5 miles into your hike, you'll start to hit some beautiful aspens! These trails are virtually unused, and it is very likely that you will enjoy your entire hike without encountering another human! Another local attraction that draws novice to advanced lovers of rope climbing and bouldering alike is the Tres Piedras Crags, which are located just a 5-minute drive down the road from our place!

From the designated camp spot at the Goat Outpost you will have epic views of large boulder formations just 2 lots away, as well as the magical Northern New Mexico sunsets. On clear evenings, you'll be treated to an unparalleled showing from the starry night sky. In our remote location, light pollution is essentially nonexistent.

Your camp spot is surrounded by beautiful pines, pinons, scrub oak, and sage brush providing shade and seclusion, as well as a smaller boulder located on our property. This little alcove is on soft, level ground, creating natural privacy for your camping. During the camp season, 2 hammock chairs hang near the campsite alcove for your use! There is also a yoga platform available near the campsite, perfect for doing your morning stretches in the sun. In the springtime, you may even hear the "peepers" (chirping frogs!) in the neighbor's small pond close to the border of our land.

Depending on where you set up your tent, you may or may not have glimpses of our cabin, or our neighbor's home (built into the side of the boulders!) from the site. We will always respect the privacy of your camping area, and we also welcome you to enjoy shared spaces with us around the cabin! There is an outdoor electrical outlet located on the external wall on the North side of the cabin where you are welcome to charge your electronics. If you are traveling in a van or have a rooftop tent/small pull-behind rig, you must come prepared to do your own leveling for the vehicle.

While staying on the property you will have access to interaction with 2 pet Nigerian Dwarf goats, "John Waters" and "David Lynch." They will keep you entertained throughout your stay with their goaty antics! They love to play fight with humans, as well as give air kisses, and receive head scratches, pets, and treats. The goat boys are typically available to fraternize in their pen or around the property between the hours of 9am and dusk.

You may also have the pleasure of encountering my father, our "Mobile Ambassador," hanging out around the premises from time to time. Dean is a retired van-lifer who sold his Albuquerque home in 2019 to hit the road as a permanent nomad. If you are into connecting, my dad is happy to share van and travel stories in his thick Bostonian accent, and he is always willing to give a tour and provide information about his fully outfitted Ford Coachmen "Crossfit" van! You can find Dean/"Papa Savas" on Instagram @littlevangoat.

If you're craving a fresh cooked meal, the historic Chili Line Depot restaurant is located just 5 minutes down the road. Get a pizza for takeout and eat in front of the small fire pit (weather permitting) at the Outpost!

Available for your use at our campsite is a new compost toilet with three-sided structure for privacy. The composting toilet setup is shared between campers and guests of Harvey the Skoolie at the Goat Outpost. Please note that our property is conveniently located not far off of the major N/S roadway, 285, and we pay for this luxury with some audible road noise. We are a working homestead, so don't be surprised if we are in the middle of some landscaping or building projects while you are on the premises!

Please note that there are 3 dogs living on-site who are "free-range," and they may come to greet you when pulling onto our property. Although they may be barking, they are all very friendly—so no need to be alarmed!

If you'd like to get a better sense of our operations before booking, you can find photos of our adorable animals, our New Mexico adventures, and our property on Instagram @thelittlegoathouse. We are proud to offer a welcoming space for LGBTQ and BIPOC communities. Our property is also 420 friendly!

**We have been hosting across various platforms since 2013, and we are happy to help with your needs during your stay. That being said, we are also very busy homesteading, doing our own traveling, and running the other aspects of our small business! Therefore WE IMMENSELY APPRECIATE SELF-SUFFICIENCY IN OUR GUESTS! Please make sure to read ALL information carefully PRIOR to sending a booking request, and consult with directions and rules etc. BEFORE directing questions to us through messages. If I happen to be off-site traveling during your stay, our wonderful caretakers Kayla and Zack will be available on the property.**

***Prior requesting to book, please check out the weather forecast for Tres Piedras. Due to our altitude, temperatures can drop significantly at night, and it can also be quite windy. To provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date conditions, we have our own AcuRite weather station here at the Goat Outpost. You can locate the link to our Weather Underground forecast on our website, or search "Weather Underground, The Little Goat Outpost" to find us!

All campers have varying levels of tolerance for moisture, wind, heat, and other weather conditions, therefore we are not able to offer refunds for cancellations due to weather that are made outside of our normal Flexible Cancellation window.***

Tanya's place was is in a beautiful high desert setting. The rabbit brush was blooming and the sage smelled so good after it sprinkled. We brought a small pull-behind camper and we didn't have any trouble driving the short distance down the dirt road. We could see mountains in the distance from the campsite. We drove to a nice beachy area on the Rio Grande within about 30 minutes. We ejoyed having a campfire and meeting her dogs and goats.

I would highly recommend Tanya’s spot. We had the most relaxing time, we chose Tanya's campsite for the start of our honeymoon, and we’re beyond excited at how beautiful and peaceful it was! We sat and read in the tree hammocks, made an amazing breakfast and could hear the coyotes sing into the night.

It felt very secluded yet safe as we we’re close enough to folks. We loved the goats!!! Big plus 🐐❤️ taos was a short drive and you’re in a great spot to explore.

We fell in love with the place and we will be back.

Tanya has a sweet spot here. Her dog and goats were friendly and entertaining. There is some traffic noise from nearby highway, but not much traffic at night.

My fiancé and I stayed at The Little Goat Outpost for two nights and really enjoyed It! Tanya is super nice and awesome. It’s a great location to Taos and Red River. Our dog loved and had lots of play time with Tanya’s sweet dog, Daisy. Tanya has an awesome setup and I wish we would’ve done some of the activities she offered that were optional!

Quiet & peaceful! Hostess greeted us in the driveway & was friendly. The site offered privacy. There was a great spot for a fire. Great view of the NM skies. Shaded areas. Friendly dog came to say good morning.
Downsides: WiFi & Cell signals weak. But you’re camping! Slight highway noise; didn’t bother us.
Note: Red Chili Line has amazing homemade pie!

Wonderful place to relax and also set out from to explore the surrounding National Forests. We enjoyed talking with the hosts and our kids loved playing with the goats and dogs which were so friendly. Sleeping out under the Milky Way was breathtaking and refreshing!

Interesting little spot tucked away in New Mexico. This was our first time using hipcamp, and it was a great experience overall. We were able to set up two tents easily as there’s plenty of flat land, and there was a made fire pit and charcoal grill. Thanks for the hospitality Tanya!
