"The Little Goat Outpost" is located off a Forest Service Road in the small rural village of Tres Piedras (Spanish for "Three Rocks"), NM. Our lovely 2 acres sits at 8,176' in treed, high desert terrain with sweeping views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

From the designated camp spot you will have epic views of the large boulders just 2 lots away, as well as the magical Northern New Mexico sunsets. Your camp spot is surrounded by beautiful pines, pinons, scrub oak, and sage brush, as well as a smaller boulder located on our property. This little alcove is on soft, level ground, and provides natural privacy for your camping. During the camp season, 2 hammock chairs hang near the campsite alcove for your use! There is also a yoga platform available near the campsite, perfect for doing your morning stretches in the sun. In the springtime, you may even hear the "peepers" (chirping frogs!) in the neighbor's small pond close to the border of our land.

Although we pinpoint a specific area to pitch your tent in our listing, we are happy for you to set up camp wherever you feel most comfortable on our 2 acres. Depending on the specific location you select, you may or may not have glimpses of our cabin, or neighbor's home (built into the side of the boulders!) from the site. We will always respect the privacy of your camping area, and also welcome you to enjoy shared spaces with us around the cabin! There is an outdoor electrical outlet located on the external wall on the North side of the cabin where you are welcome to charge your electronics.

While staying on the property you will have access to interaction with 2 pet Nigerian Dwarf goats, "John Waters" and "David Lynch." They will keep you entertained throughout your stay with their goaty antics! They love to play fight with humans, as well as give air kisses, and receive head scratches, pets, and treats. The goat boys are typically available to fraternize between the hours of 9am and dusk.

You may also encounter my father, our "Mobile Ambassador" hanging out around the premises from time to time. Dean is a retired van-lifer who sold his Albuquerque home in 2019 to hit the road full-time. If you are into connecting, my dad is happy to share van and travel stories in his thick Bostonian accent, and he is always willing to give a tour and provide information about his fully outfitted Ford Coachmen "Crossfit" van! You can find Dean/"Papa Savas" on Instagram @littlevangoat!

If you're craving a fresh cooked meal, we offer "Cabin-to-campsite" breakfast and dinner options cheffed by my talented partner, Paul. To see a sampling of photos of a Paul's delicious cooking creations, check in on his Instagram @grubergrub. In addition, the historic Chili Line Depot restaurant is located just 5 minutes down the road. Get a pizza for takeout and eat in front of the small fire pit (weather permitting) at the Outpost!

Available for your use at our campsite is a "luggable loo" or a makeshift tarp-teepee outhouse — your preference. Please note that our home is conveniently located not far off of the major N/S roadway, 285, and we pay for this luxury with some audible road noise. We are a working homestead, so don't be surprised if we are in the middle of some landscaping or building projects while you are on the premises! If you'd like to get a better sense of our operations before booking, you can find photos of our adorable animals, our New Mexico adventures, and our property on Instagram @thelittlegoathouse.

For those who are interested, there is a standing opportunity to participate in a traditional Native American Sweat Lodge ceremony on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month on a nearby property with experienced elders. These ceremonies are free and take place roughly between 2:30pm-4:30pm, followed by a community meal. Help with lodge set-up and the contribution of a dish for the shared meal after the sweat is expected, and all participants must come ready to respect the ceremony in conduct/etiquette. Please express your interest in your booking inquiry message if you wish to participate.

**We have been hosting across various platforms since 2013, and we are happy to help with your needs during your stay. That being said, we are also very busy homesteading, doing our own traveling, and running the other aspects of our small business! Therefore WE IMMENSELY APPRECIATE SELF-SUFFICIENCY IN OUR GUESTS! Please make sure to read ALL information carefully PRIOR to sending a booking request, and consult with directions and rules etc. BEFORE directing questions to us through messages.**

***Prior requesting to book, please check out the weather forecast for Tres Piedras. Due to our altitude, temperatures can drop significantly at night, and it can also be quite windy. To provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date conditions, we have our own AcuRite weather station here at the Goat Outpost. You can locate the link to our Weather Underground forecast on our website, or search "Weather Underground, The Little Goat Outpost" to find us!***

Tanya is such an amazing host and went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and comfortable. The experience and privilege of being at her space was such a treat! The goats are such an added bonus! The stay was above and beyond what I ever could have expected!

Tanya was an amazing host! We had some great conversations around the fire. Overall a nice place to camp with cool trails nearby. John and David (her two lovely goats) are sweet and cuddly. Would highly recommend!

Super cute little farm, Tanya was a great host and so nice to us during our stay. Sunset walks with her, Daisy, and the goats are definitely a great way to end the night. We also decided to go get pizza at the Chili Line Depot up the street and were charmed by the small town diner feel. My partner and I had such a great experience here we're already planning on coming back soon!

Tanya is by far one of the best hosts I've ever had the pleasure of meeting on any of my trips! Even before we officially met, she was sweet enough to give me detailed recommendations and made sure to answer all of my questions. The property itself is gorgeous and has just the right amount of seclusion. My best friend and I felt completely safe, welcomed, and at home after meeting Tanya and her animals! The two goats are SO much fun and Daisy the dog kept us company until we fell asleep. It really felt like we had rented a dog with our stay -in the best way!! Can't wait to come back for my next stay!

Thank you Natalie, it was so fun hosting you and Kat at our property! I hope you guys can come back again soon (maybe when the snow melts, lol!), and maybe I'll have some mustard next time 😆 Stay safe! - Tanya, John + David the Goats, and Daisy the Rescue Doggie

Tanya and her pack were not only inviting but they helped me get back into my car when I accidentally locked everything (phone, keys, spare key in purse, purse) in my car. I highly recommend staying here. I felt extremely safe and my dog loved it.

I would give Tanya and her goats 5 stars easily! Loved the property, it’s absolutely beautiful. And Tanya was so helpful and communicative before I arrived — I was camping in my rooftop tent and she had a great, flat spot for me to park on. In the morning, Tanya and I had a really fun chat while Daisy (the adorable dog) and the goats hung around and made us laugh. When I come back through this area next month, I’ll definitely stay again! Thanks Tanya!
