The vintage red bus, Flo, is privately hidden among the Junipers overlooking the Ortiz Mountains. She has been our well loved tiny home on the road before we found our sanctuary here. We live off grid, and the bus has it's own solar power. There's a wood stove for heat. The eclectic artist community of Madrid is a 5 mile drive. The 1 3/4 mile dirt road to us is rough but do

It was so much fun staying in this old schoolbus. It felt rustic, but all kinds of details were taken care of, down to a cutting board, bags of tea, a washcloth, twinkly lights inside. The location was remote and beautiful. Our old Toyota made it over the path, though slowly. Would love to stay there again!
Flo, the magic schoolbus
Flo the desert bus is a magical place to stay. The surrounding nature provides the sound of silence, and the lights hung around the property make one feel truly romanced. Cozy and peaceful and CLEAN and private. Book more than one night if you can because you won’t want to leave. A memorable FIRST trip on Hipcamp, and now it will be hard to beat. Maybe one day we will meet again...

Charming, and worth the drive
Super cute little bus! We ended up staying during a rainy weekend, and my tiny Prius C made it up and down the trail twice, albeit very slowly. Definitely bring a 4wd or high clearance vehicle if you can help it, because it wasn't easy.
Definitely worth it though. Great view of the hills and mountains from every direction.
We didn't realize that there was a van/RV site on the lot as well, and that the outhouse was shared with it. Given the current circumstances, we were a little nervous since we could audibly hear our neighbors coughing, but we all kept our distance.
When we arrived, there was water available for us on the bus, as well as instructions for the appliances and outhouse. There was plenty of space on the bus to spread out (and I had two kids on a rainy weekend), and it's charmingly decorated.
The host does have dogs that roam, and are friendly for the most part. One dog is a little more excitable than the other, and did spook my daughter.
We got plenty of exercise and beautiful views walking on the dirt road. Only 5 minutes from Madrid, which is magical if you've never been before.
The drive to Little Dancing Horse Ranch was a little long but worth it! The dirt road was a little rough getting there but we went slow and eventually made it. Flo was nice and clean and offered some power and it was nice being provided with a fan to keep cool.
Anne Marie was a wonderful host and staying in Flo was a very unique experience! Beautiful views all around. The location was private and Flo had a very cozy feel. Definitely a memorable first trip on Hipcamp!
This bus is absolutely gorgeous! The striking red paint was beautiful against the stunning dessert views. The gas stove inside was very useful for cooking, while the wood burning stove inside kept us warm and cozy. The hammock was perfect for stargazing at night and drinking hot chocolate on in the morning. I wish we could have stayed more than one night, but we definitely hope to stay here again next time we are in the area!
Flo was so lovely to stay in! It was so exciting to see the compost bin! Really really lovely bus with a nice artsy vibe and and wood stove keeps it SUPER warm. Highly recommend and will do our best to make it back here whenever passing through Santa Fe again!
