They will also encounter; breathtaking sunrises, gorgeous sunsets, and amazing glittering stars. If they get lucky, views of wild horses will be encountered. Nearby are trails that can be utilized for walking or biking, as well as a look out point. We are a dry camp; so whatever campers haul in they need to haul out. We are pet friendly, but visitors need to clean up after their pets. There is one portable unisex restroom, which is cleaned on a regular basis. We hope that you enjoy your stay and give us a great review!

For Travel trailers/5th wheel/ Class A/Bus Conversion that are over 25 feet there will automatically be charged $40 a night.

After spending two absolutely stunning and serene nights at Horsethief Campground, my sister and I feel refreshed and ready to tackle the crazy world again! We loved Tsuky and Tippy’s company. They are both so sweet! The morning sunrise and sunsets are the most beautiful we have ever seen! I highly recommend staying at Horsethief Campground while visiting the sacred and magnificent Chaco Canyon! Wayne and Yolanda, thanks again for your hospitality and kindness. Will definitely return!

Very grateful for a place to stay with great company, we loved their dogs! So easy to find and the next morning I had a bag fall out of the car and the camp owner helped look for it on the road outside. So kind. We will definitely be back!

I hope your stay is a better one next time and meet your family, not on the fly like we did. Sorry we didn't retrieve your lost bag. We really appreciate spending the night with us. Wayne and Yolanda, Horse-Thief Campground

We absolutely loved our stay here. Quiet, nice fire pit. Ground was flat and clear of brush which was perfect since we camped in our truck and enjoyed doing yoga in the morning at sunrise. Wayne was such a great host, he really cares for the land and wild horses on the property. We will come back when we visit Chaco!

Wayne and Yolanda were gracious and kind hosts and have a wonderful vision for an eco friendly campground near Chaco canyon. As the only spot to boondock on the north side of Chaco we were thrilled to stay at Horse Thief Campground for a night. The place was easy to find and access even in our 44ft Class A. The drive to Chaco was about 35 minutes with the roads being a little rough after heavy rains. There weren’t amenities at this dry camping spot, at least not yet, but it was a great option over a multi hour drive from further away spots. I would highly recommend this place for a convenient close location to Chaco especially for larger rigs that can’t make it into the campground inside the national monument.

Chaco Canyon, about 30 minutes from Horse Thief campground, much closer than any other option!Chaco Canyon, about 30 minutes from Horse Thief campground, much closer than any other option!Chaco Canyon, about 30 minutes from Horse Thief campground, much closer than any other option!Chaco Canyon, about 30 minutes from Horse Thief campground, much closer than any other option!

The space was great for letting the kids run around! The two dogs were very sweet, if a little wary of our dogs. The owners came by to check on us, and made sure we were comfortable. They were very nice and generous.
I would recommend clearer directions, we had two groups coming from separate places, and we both got lost. From 550, follow signs to Chaco Canyon until the pavement ends. Soon after, there is a "dry camp" sign, that's the place! The location labeled in Google maps is wrong. The pin is correct, if your phone can figure out how to use the pin. And you cannot get there from the fictional road Google shows from the south.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review, and information on clearer directions. It was nice to have children at our place. We were happy to make you all comfortable. Very glad your family slept comfortable and that you enjoyed “Summer Solstice” at Chaco Canyon : - )

We had to turn around due to medical issues but the site looked lovely. Wayne and Yolanda were very helpful and communicative hosts. Next time I visit Chaco this will be my first choice.
