Harvey is a 2002 Bluebird Mini Bird from Bend-La Pine, Oregon! Harvey retired from service in January 2020, and over the course of 8 months transformed into a Tiny Traveling Home. In February 2021 Harvey made his maiden voyage down the West Coast, over to Texas, and then back to Northern New Mexico where he now resides at "The Little Goat Outpost."
The Little Goat Outpost is a gorgeous treed 2-acre property that sits at over 8,100' elevation in the rural village of Tres Piedras, just 45 minutes drive Northwest of Taos! Harvey has been lovingly situated at the highest point on the land, commanding beautiful views of the distant mountains and the nearby crags from the plethora of original Bluebird bus windows!
Inside Harvey you will find a comfortable double bed, a sofa nook, his-and-hers closets, a television with USB cable, and a functional kitchen space with sink, mini-fridge + freezer, and a 2-burner cooktop. Outside, we invite you to enjoy a dedicated space with small fire pit, patio table, and a direct-access walking path to the goat pen! Want to stay for a while and work remotely? We've got you covered with available 100 MBPS fiber optic internet!
Harvey @ The Little Goat Outpost is ideally located near some of the most compelling outdoor areas and activities in Northern New Mexico! Just a 5 minute drive down the street you will find the Tres Piedras Crags, known for exceptional climbing, bouldering, and views! A 10 minute walk behind the Goat Outpost property will put you on a virtually unused trailhead leading into the Carson National Forest. In addition to your stay, hikes can be booked with the resident Nigerian Dwarf goat boys, "John Waters" and David Lynch!"
The owner of The Little Goat Outpost property lives in the 660 sq. ft. cabin on-site, and also hosts one camping spot on the property. Tanya is available for emergencies for our Harvey listing, however Harvey has a self check-in and check-out system. Therefore, please respect Tanya's privacy and do not knock on the cabin door or seek her out with questions. All questions should be directed to me through messaging on the app!
If you happen see Tanya around the land, do feel free to say "hi!" Another perk of Harvey is the ability to coordinate to book Tanya's campsite (as available)—also located on the property at the Goat Outpost—for tent, car, or van camping if you are traveling with a larger group!

What to expect:
Harvey runs on SOLAR!! There is a 300W panel located on the roof - this means limited power, especially on a cloudy day. With 3 commercial batteries being charged by the sun it should be enough to cover your daily needs. The fridge, charging phones, laptops and TV (provided) use should be no problem. There are 3 electrical outlets available to charge your devices provided electronics in Harvey.
Water comes from a 46 gallon water tank mounted in the bus which is filled from an outdoor spigot providing potable city water.
This is a "no frills" listing and is designed to allow us to offer a quick, flexible, and unique space that can be booked last-minute, and can accommodate later check-out and earlier check-in times than many short-term rentals. This is accomplished by not having the need to clean and prep the space ourselves, which is where you come in. While the bus will receive a monthly deep cleaning, we ask that you leave the place exactly as you would want to find it — extremely clean and tidy for the next guests (there is a cleaning checklist and cleaning supplies are provided for checkout).
DO NOT book this listing if you have any doubts about whether you will be completing the items on the checkout list without fail - we do our best to enforce policies with the rental, but it IS designed to be a self-run listing and we will not be available to remedy cleaning items left undone by the last guests.
Here's what you'll want to bring to have a comfortable stay in the Harvey @ The Little Goat Outpost:
- bedding essentials: sleeping bags or sheets and blankets, pillows + pillow cases (small throw pillows are available — they are not fancy)
- towels/wash clothes/etc. if you plan to use the outdoor shower- shampoo and conditioner, if you require more than an all-purpose camp soap (please be aware of what products you use as this will run directly onto the land).
- a sense of competence and responsibility to leave the bus in tip-top shape for the next guests!
Here's what's provided for your use during your stay:
- 30in Smart Samsung TV & HDMI cable
- card and board games
- dishes and silverware
- REI "luggable loo" with pee and poo bags (pre-lined with substance that degrades waste and controls odor)
- small portable weber grill (BYO GRILL SUPPLIES)
- water for washing
- cleaning supplies

As good as house
Needless to say, it was fantastic! The interior space was practical and very neat. It was our first camping in the U.S, I'd say Harvey is a good place for even beginners without any equipment. The loo locates between the bus and camping site and shared with them, but nothing problems.
There were a pot, frying pan, various kinds of utensils, and basic seasonings(such as salt, pepper, olive oil etc.)
The firepower of stove was also strong enough. This is as good as a house. I can't recommend it enough.
Harvey is such a unique getaway! The bus is cozy yet specious, fully equipped with a little kitchen, lounge area, and a comfortable bed. There's a charcoal grill and a fire pit for your s’mores. We watched the sunset while having dinner, and then climbed up the roof deck for stargazing. Kyrie was super easy to communicate with, and Tanya at The Little Goat Outpost was wonderful and even invited us to join her and her goats on a hike. So much fun! Would definitely come back!
Harvey was a great place to call “home” for a short weekend retreat with the little. There were places to bike and hike and when we felt like resting for a bit, there was a TV that we hooked our AppleTV to (because WiFi!) Kyrie was very responsive when I contacted her and Tara was onsite to make sure we had everything we needed. We had a pleasant stay and I’m sure we’ll stay again in the future.
Under the stars
Kyrie was responsive to my texts and helped us to book last minute as well as answer our questions while we were visiting. The directions to the property were easy to follow and we appreciated the solar electricity, board games, general charm of the bus as well as running water. This is great location for an evening or weekend getaway!
Harvey was such a sweet setup!! It was amazing having running water, a propane stove, comfy bed, a fridge and a rooftop deck! The sitting area inside was perfect for rainy afternoons. Hiking in the national forest was beautiful and simple. Once you get to Harvey (with all your food and potable water supplies) you won't have to drive again because you can just hike from where you are! Tanya and her goats were amazing hiking guides and buddies!
Bus life made it easy..
Overall we had a great experience at the converted Bus Harvey @the little goat outpost.
Some points to note:
- There was some issue with the water at the kitchen sink, and had to use the faucet on the outside of the bus, yet we were informed this issue would be fixed, and the host was even willing to come and trouble shoot it while we were there, but we worked around it.
- The table that was for dining, was very unstable when we set it up, and so was not really useful in the end for dining or office work, and we ended up bringing a table from the outside so we could do our business from.
With these details tuned in, we believe this is an awesome experience, just needs some further attention to the experience, and maybe advise the owner to spend a couple days/nights there to feel out functionability.
We didn't have time for the goat experience, but surely would have loved too, maybe next time..
All that said, we would most likely come and stay here again, and the host (although not on site), was responsive and caring. ))))
