Dusty Rabbit Van Life @ Schrimsher Ranch is an alternative camping & Star Gazing location just outside of town, yet close to the open road. A great place to relax under the stars, have a camp fire, and kick back next to your travel rig after a long day. You are welcome to explore the 600+ acres of rolling hills and high desert of our ranch. If you cross a fence you've gone too far, so that makes it easy for you to know where you're at. You might just want to crash for the night in a safe location out on the rangeland or stay a day or two to enjoy the land to walk, mountain bike antelope trails, and maybe even Sniffers the pronghorn antelope will find ya before you head out. This is a primitive site, so leave no trace practice is appreciated and pack in/out is how we do it here. If you come in the summer prepare the morning coffee early and enjoy the desert sun's rays hit the Capitan, but by 9am it will be hot, so be ready! Best star gazing and satellite watching in the world!
I have several sites to choose from. But remember to keep an eye on the wind and weather as it can get crazy out here sometimes…..!!! I try to keep the sites stocked with firewood, but fill free to bring your own.
Lonely Bull Camp 1 is my most popular site. It is very private and is easily accessible by most vehicles and campers. Ask about Lonely Bull Camp 4x4 if you have a capable vehicle. Amazing stars!!
Old Highway Camp is a great alternative if you want something closer to the highway and have a safe private place to pull over, camp, kickback, make a fire and get back to your life on the on the road in the morning. It is closer to the highway, but is quite at night and has great star gazing. Enjoy being greeted by The Mountain in the morning. Let me know where you would like to stay and I will do my best to accommodate you! Safe travels!

We loved the area west of Roswell. The sky was amazing and fortunately there was no wind at night. Directions were clear, easy and quick replies.
Great directions into the site. Excellent communication. Absolutely spectacular views. It was so wonderfully quiet!

The camp site was perfect! Extremely spacious and private under the big, open, beautiful starry night sky. Nathan had left a lot of firewood for us which was a nice surprise. The sun was bright and on full blast during the day but the nights were chilly and crisp. Bundle up in your tent at night!

We ended up booking a one night stay on a super windy night and pulling in late because the wind had delayed our motorcycle trip a bit. That said, working with Nathan was a super easy, and he even warned us that it might be windy that day when I booked (not normal, just a spring thing that was happening through the whole region). So super happy with the camp ground and host, but could have been better weather.
I will say though that about 3 am the wind died down to nothing, I woke up, and got the most beautiful view of the stars. Those 10 minutes before I fell back asleep were exactly why I booked this place... so next time we are riding through, I'll definitely book again!
Nathan’s land was so much more than I expected. We could see the highway from our campsite but it was so quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed a long sunset hike up the hillside and made a warm fire with the wood he provided us to close out our evening. We got up in the middle of the night for some amazing astrophotography opportunities. We will definitely be coming back here!!
I stayed at the 4x4 campsite at the top of the hill. You can see for miles in ever direction. Was a windy night so no fire. Without much of a plan or notice, Nathan's campsite was awesome. My dog was able to roam free and I could keep eyes on him. He did get to learn not to mess with fire ants. If you head up there to stay, just be mindfull of those things. Nathan gave really great directions. Favorite moments were a wicked sunset, and a great sunrise in the morning.
