Pitch your tent near Sapillo Creek at one of our three campsites, all surrounded by the Mogollon Mountains!  Each campsite features slightly different topographic features and are at slightly different elevations and private from each other.

Each site should easily accommodate groups of 4 - 6 people and are spartan.  Just the gorgeous wilderness surrounding you.  Campsite 1 has some logs to sit on but the rest have grasses and flatland.

There is parking available for campers at the foot of our property and there is a lot to park at there.  When you turn into our driveway the parking is on the right, if you start driving up the hill on the driveway, you have already passed it and please turn around so as not to disturb the guests who are staying in our home that is atop the driveway.

You will need to walk in, between 5 - 20 min (Campsite #1 is the closest to the parking site and the potable water and Campsite #2 is about 20 min walk/hike in from the parking and potable water area) to find the campsites and to explore on our 20 acres and the adjoining Gila Wilderness lands as well as dozens and dozens of hikes in short driving distance as well as Lake Roberts down the street.

Campsite 1 and 3 are closest to the creek! Campsite 2 is high up and has great views but does require you to climb up a somewhat gravelly path that can be very slippery. Not for those who mind scrambling up the hill.

NOTE: Campsite 2 used to be right behind the house and now it is where the old Campsite 4 used to be.  Prior to July 2021, Campsite 4 will still have the #4 on it - it will be fixed after we visit the property in July.

Please pay attention to the pictures and the captions - they show you the path to each of the Campsites.

The area was lovely and remote, however we were unable to locate the campsite due to the area being completely overgrown. We could barely see the sign for parking, and ended up having to drive into the brush that was taller than the car. We ended up flattening the grass on the side of the road with the car and pitching the tent there because there was no visible trail to the campsite anywhere. It was a fine experience but not quite what we had in mind!

I stayed 2 nights in Campsite #1, closest to the parking area. This is a good flat site secluded behind scrub and small trees, along with a steep ridge to the south. It is alongside the trail to the other 3 campsites, so in that regard you should expect some foot traffic if the other sites are occupied. This location is a great base-camp for day trips to explore the Gila Wilderness. Very private the first night (no other campers), but also nice to talk to the other campers from distant places who arrived the next day.

Stayed in campsite #1. This was a good site close to the car and brook. Private area which was nice. 3 min walk to car parking and water. We had a lovely stay.

Spent two nights at campsite 1 and it was very well kept. Originally wanted to stay at campsite 3 but arrived after dark and wouldn’t have been able to find it. None the less, the creek was a few feet away and still had privacy. The mornings were nice and shaded with trees. Saw some deer one morning. We drove a short way to hike and then went to lake Roberts and fished. It was the perfect place to stay for exploring Gila.

Stayed here one night on a whim, was looking to see the Gila Forest and most campgrounds were closed due to Covid-19. Getting to the site was simple enough and host gave special directions via message. I have T-mobile and had reception/coverage the whole time, which was cool.

The property itself is great, and I stayed at campsite 1. If you can, I would stay at sites 3 or 4 for additional isolation. My site was closest to the creek and parking lot which had their own benefits but I feel like I missed out a little by not venturing in further. All in all a great space, a great reason to dive into the Gila. Saw a big bushy-tail fox, javelina and the milky way. Woke up to hummingbirds peeking in my tent. Great nights sleep, felt safe, would stay again and recommend to friends!

The site was isolated and super close to Lake Roberts which was our desired destination. Havalina visited us at night which was troublesome since we had a small baby and dogs who insisted on protecting...lol. During the pandemic it was a perfect isolated retreat. The site is very rustic and trails are narrow. We brought a foldable wagon to bring in supplies.

I really enoyed camping here on an expedition to search out Gila Trout. Site #1, where I camped, is located very near the creek. Great for those of us who sleep best to water sounds.

Bonus was a group of javelinas who ambled down to the creek right after I arrived - I'd never seen one before. One stood on the bank and posed for a photo.

Jennifer was the perfect host. She patiently directed back down to the parking area when she saw me lost and wandering around the casitas. And she was very understanding when I got stranded by car trouble and was unable to check out on time.

This is beautiful, but rugged and remote, country. Be prepared!

We had a fantastic time at Sapillo Creek. We expected primitive conditions so we were not disappointed at all. We stayed in campsite 1 which was fantastic as the kids were able to play in the creek while the adults relaxed in the shade. There is however no real shade at the campsite. I wouldn’t recommend arriving at night as the sight could be hard to find. Lastly, there is a fair walk from the car to the campsite. We brought a wagon to haul our stuff so it wasn’t any issue. Thanks so much Jennifer!
