This is a "walk-in" tent camping site. The parking, water, and bathroom access are shared with Jose Ortiz's "Legends" campsite, where you park. Campo Norte is 221 yards Northwest off the trail. Campo Conejito is 141 yards west. No motorized vehicles on the trails, electric bikes are ok. campsites are cleared and level lots of "beach sand" minus the beach! Raw desert land, cactus, and thorny bushes abound so wear good shoes and watch to avoid a painful experience. Also, stay away from the beehives, there are two in the area. Nice trail for hiking, and you can follow the arroyo North to the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument directly north of the camp. Mountain bike trails for beginners to experts are just 1/4 mile west on DesertWind Way. Ask about day hikes in the area with petroglyphs, Permian Trackways, and more. Oñate, Geronimo, Billy the Kid, and more wandered through these lands.

The spot was right off the highway, and just what we needed! Our host had firewood ready for us, and there was plenty of space to set up the tent on soft sand. Great view of the mountain, too! We would definitely stay here again :)
