James & Laura are very nice & welcoming. Upon arrival James gave me a tour of the property & answered any questions I had. We built a stone fire circle together. The spot is very lovely & lots of natural beauty! If wanting to camp at this homestead spot, i would HIGHLY recommend tenting (see review of cabin below), especially during berry seasons. It was a very calm and nice place. The outside property & people were nice.
The cabin; The furnishings of blankets, chairs, etc. were very true to photos, but the addition of mouse droppings everywhere, disintegrating fur pelts, along with some personal belongings of others was not anticipated. It seemed as though someone was living there and had vacated prior to our arrival. The blankets & bedding were dirty & gave the cabin a slight musty smell. Depending on your cleanliness needs, you may or may not feel comfortable. We slept outside by the fire on our own blankets, where there was abundant amount of fresh air and stars, but then decided to pack up and leave for the next night. Sleeping under the stars for night 2 wasn't an option as it became very dewy and wet outside.
We were hesitant to bring this up to the hosts in person directly, thinking that if they were offering it in this condition, they saw no problem with it. Cleanliness is tricky as individuals have different limits. Dirt, human dirt, animal dirt, car dirt, etc. I
If my party could recommend anything to insure a better experience for the next group; a clean sweep of all person belongings (shoes, hair brush, clothes, kegel balls, etc.) , along with a washing of blankets & pillows, tapestries, or eliminate entirely from experience & just request guest to provide their own, a little bit more bare bones.
Pros - great out door property, tasty clean running water, nice people, privacy
Cons- cabin isn't well maintained for guests & may not be up to cleanliness standards for everyone.
The cabin was fantastic. It was comfortable, private, and one-of-a-kind. The place was easy to find and communication was excellent. We enjoyed romping through the surrounding wilderness, swimming in the farm pond, and waking to the cock-a-doodle-do of a rooster. This is the perfect spot to unwind if you need to get out of the city. 10/10 would try again.
