Park your vehicle and pack in on foot to your preferred site for a rustic camping experience. Camp with us and discover why we have been named, Hipcamp's Best Campsite to visit in Nebraska for 2022!

The Peaceful Prairie is a 200+ acre short grass site sharing a fence line with Scotts Bluff National Monument, a U.S. National Park. Sitting at the foot of the stunning South Bluff and Dome Rock, hikers can easily access the park property to hike the bluffs or stay on camp property to walk the prairie, explore the beautiful canyon, (which features one lovely camping option) and interact with our two friendly senior horses, Tigger and Lightning, who love to make friends.

Delicious drinking water and a portable potty is available at the base camp area where you will park your car. It is easily accessible from most any site you'll choose, with a short walk or hike down from the hills.

Summer days can be hot, but evenings do cool off, offering a glorious relief from approximately 6 p.m., until 9 -10 a.m., which is optimal hiking time. Our check in time is 6 p.m. in July and August for this reason; however, if you arrive early, we recommend you visit the Scotts Bluff National Monument Visitor's Center, and or Legacy of the Plains Museum.  Both are located 3-4 miles from our campsites, right next to each other.  Google will get you there.  The Gering Swimming Pool is also a wonderful option, especially for families, reasonably priced, and also located only 3 miles away.

Due to ongoing drought conditions, fires are not currently safe on the prairie, but you may use your gas cook stove. There is limited shade available. It can be found in cooler areas requiring a bit more effort to access near the hills. It may be wise to consider making your own shade while you are here.

The Peaceful Prairie foot-only access sites are our response to the ongoing drought here. Once existing bookings that allowed vehicles on the prairie are complete, that option will no longer be offered until the land recovers.

To learn more about what other campers have said, read the reviews from the Peaceful Prairie site. The land is the same, the only change is the foot-only access.

Pets are welcome if kept leashed at all times. Not only do we have coyotes, there is also an area where the burrowing owl lives on the prairie. For these reasons, dogs are expressly required to ALWAYS be on a leash on the prairie.

Lisa and Frank's Prairie camping is breathtaking. While I only had a one night stay on my return journey from venturing through the Badlands, Black Hills, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton, it was fantastic. The views and experience is second to none. I was able to hike the back Prairie and even climb the side of the bluff that was recommended to do upon my arrival. The area is definitely warm in the days, but just as the listing states, once the sun touches the bluffs the evening really is beautiful. I would definitely stay again sometime, it's a beautiful retreat away from the noise of the city or your standard bustling campgrounds.

The land and Lisa (probably Frank too, but I didn't get to meet him) are wonderful. It was great to watch the sun set and rise on/around the buttes, and I went for a pleasant hike in the morning. It was a very nice stay.
