Though the brook was a bit dry late in the summer, there were plenty of shady choices for pitching my tent. Be prepared to clear small branches away to make sleeping more comfy—the upside of this is that there is plenty of fallen wood of all sizes that you can use to build a fire in the fire pit. Bob is a great host; he was waiting on his porch for my arrival, and guided me to the camping area. This spot itself is relatively secluded, but still quite convenient and easy to find when on a road trip through Nebraska.
Bob and the site were great. Just as advertised. I have a van and had a great level and private spot. Plus the little town of Nelson has a great diner - D&D’s Lyon’s Den. This is a great spot to spend the night if you are coming or going to The Willa Cather Center in nearby Red Cloud. As an added bonus I got to experience lightening bugs and a thunderstorm. Both novelties for a San Diegan.
