Ever wish your campsite was more private?  We currently allow only one party at a time at this premium location. You will be the only party to use the area during your stay. The view is incredible and unobstructed. Sunrises and sunsets are beautiful. Your site is on a hill top, topped with an Indian mound, topped with a tree house in a huge White Oak. Ten minutes from I-70. Many campers with a smaller tent choose to camp in the Treehouse.  The tree house is not a house until you put your tent on it.  It is a deck that is well made and has solid guard rails. The location is over 200 yards from our residence and is very private.  In spite of the remoteness, free high speed Wi-Fi with no password is available at the site. We have never had a camper tell us that they had no phone reception either. The view is amazing in ALL directions. Indians used this location heavily as evidenced by abundant stone artifacts. They were the original campers here! The best view is of the Missouri river bottoms.   I'm sure this is why the Indians used this site.  Wildlife is abundant. It is usually very quiet except for the frogs, birds, coyotes, and crickets. There is a camp faucet on site controlled by a hydrant about 150' away. Electricity for charging phones, etc. can be accessed at the barn. We have a full size, but not ADA, portable toilet at the barn.

This review is long overdue!

First off, Doug and Brenda have a very special place, here, and not just the treehouse, though the treehouse is pretty amazing on its own! Their property is lovely and peaceful, and you get the real sense that they care deeply about the horses they are looking after. They are both kind and generous, and were more than helpful when it came to any questions or suggestions for the area.

The treehouse itself is wonderful. We only had one night in it, and decided we simply had to pitch our little 2 person tent up on the platform. What an awesome experience. I'd say that if you're comfortable with heights and have a small enough tent, you absolutely must do it. There is the option to pitch beneath the impressive tree, however, and the space around the trunk with the table and fire barrel is quite nice. Doug has a camp sink set up near the table, which is convenient, and there's an outhouse just a short walk away at the barn.

We'd stay here again in a heartbeat, and cannot recommend it highly enough. It's a truly unique site in a really beautiful area that more people need to see! Thanks Doug and Brenda (and Radar!) for everything!

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful weekend here. We arrived late and Doug was kind enough to start a fire for us. The ground was dry so we were able to drive right up to the campsite. The Oak itself is gorgeous, as is the property. The site is about 100 yards from their house. They have two friendly and adorable dogs, a cat (and kittens when we were there), chickens, and horses. The horses roam around the property, but there is a perimeter of paracord around the campsite that keeps them from wandering too close. They wont bother you but if you're terrified of horses this might not be the place for you. Doug and Brenda were very kind and considerate hosts. They took the time to show us the property and told us we were welcome to explore anywhere we wanted, and even told us we were welcome to some fresh eggs from their coop. They also gave some great suggestions for places to go in the surrounding area, including Katy Trail state park, which was beautiful and had a winery right off the trail. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat, and to meet a couple lovely people who will make you feel like family then this is the place for you.

My group consisted of myself, husband and 13yr old son. This was a fantastic getaway for the weekend. We were way out in the country surrounded by horses, chicken and a full sky of stars. The owners home was far enough away that we had privacy, but we were close enough to help the owner feed the horses (a highlight for the 13 yr old). I slept on the tree house platform with my 13 yr old. My husband slept on the ground in his tent. When we showed up the owners had a fire already started for us, so it didn't take too long to get a few s'mores in. At night we could hear the horses taking to each other and we could feel the breeze blowing through the tree. It was perfect and hope to get back someday.

Didn't get a chance to stay because my plans got delayed but they were super accommodating and responsive to messages and tried their best to make it work. Based on that alone I'd say go for it!

Although it was very hot, we had a great time at Tripletop! Before we arrived, Doug, set up a couple stock tanks of water for my boys (ages 7 and 10) to keep cool. During our stay he taught them about the horses and invited them to assist him during feeding time. That was a special experience they won't soon forget. They also had the opportunity to check the chicken coop for eggs and they loved visiting the cats. Tripletop is just the place to enjoy nature, animals, relax and reconnect through simple fun. Thank you Doug and Brenda!

Stayed a week on Doug and Brenda's property. We parked our small 15' camper trailer under the big white oak tree. Doug provided an electrical cord and fresh water right to our spot which was great. Also my husband was able to work his full time job with great Verizon LTE service. Fantastic spot and really nice location.

I could see myself coming back again and again to this incredible spot. There were so many wonderful aspects to this campsite and our hosts that it’s hard to really put the experience into words, you just have to see it! The treehouse is sturdy, well built and offers plenty of room for a tent or as we strung up a hammock. The site itself has a sink w/ potable water (if you bring soap, make sure it’s grey water friendly!) and hose for getting cleaned up! There is also a picnic table, fire pit w/ grill, firewood and plenty of grilling tools, not only that but the hosts provide chairs as well for sitting around the fire. Outside of the amenities the site overlooks the pond, where we did some fishing during our stay, and the farm, where we were invited to gather some fresh eggs for our breakfast.

Doug, Brenda and their daughter Lea were incredible hosts and wonderful people! We had the opportunity to chat and spend some time with them before we headed out and really look forward to returning some day soon!

Fantastic experience! Beautiful spot. The pond, the barn, the fire pit, the oak tree, the tree house, the dry wood, the picnic table, the chairs, the outdoor sink with water, the kind hosts, all make the experience great. The only thing I would add would be a trash receptacle on the property so guests don’t have to put trash in their car. Otherwise, splendid!!!

Book it!

Camping at the Big Oak Treehouse far exceeded my expectations. Doug and Brenda’s property is so lovely, and the oak tree campsite is one of my favorite camping experiences to date. Photos cannot do the property justice, you have to see it!

The upkeep of the oak tree site is immaculate, and they have thought of all the extra touches (sink, toilet, firewood, fresh eggs in the morning) to make sure you are comfortable.

10/10 Can not recommend this campsite enough.
