Hidden in the hills
Perfect stop in between long days of driving! The site was well outfitted with many extras that help when camping on the road-- sanitizer, a cooler full of ice, and ground soft enough to pitch a tent. Robert and Charlene were generous hosts, were super communicative, made sure we felt welcomed and had everything we needed! When an unexpected rain storm pummeled us during the night, they checked in to make sure we made it out ok as we had an early departure. Charlene brought us eggs from her chickens--a lovely touch.
A magical spot!
What an amazing campsite! This quickly became my favorite hilltop! There is enough tree cover to beat the afternoon heat, yet still plenty of open sky to see a beautiful display of stars at night.
The hosts, Bob and Charlene, were terrific. Very prompt, welcoming, hospitable, and entertaining! They delivered plenty of fresh water, firewood, and farm fresh eggs! The drive out there was very beautiful as well!
Can't wait to return!!
Family, friends, but not strangers
Wow! The attention paid to each visitor is amazing! Robert discovered I was arriving in a motorcycle made special efforts to ensure that my arrival and departure would be as smooth and safe as possible. I showed up early and caught them in the act!
When I arrived, the hospitality was beyond belief. I felt like I was a family member staying for the weekend. The extra steps they took to make me feel at home really made me feel at home. I can not put words to how this experience went far beyond any HipCamp I have ever stayed at. I will truly remember this stop in my “adventure” forever. Robert & Co are new to the Hip Camp game, and are determined to make their property something special.
After an idyllic drive through a pastoral landscape, you arrive at Happy Hollow, and it's really only when you reach the top of the hill that you start to understand its magic. This spot is perfectly primitive--we felt completely removed from everyone and everything, yet totally safe. I challenge you to find kinder, sweeter, or more accomodating hosts, or a more beautiful sunrise. Our only complaint is that we didn't plan to stay longer!
Good stop off the interstate
Bob is ready to help make your stay the best it can be. His wife even made me a home cooked meal! Happy Hallow is a good stop if you're cruising along the interstate and want to try something different. It's tucked away in the hills and close the river, but elevated enough that mosquitoes are not an issue. Just when you think you're off the beaten path you take a few more turns and really get away from it all. *Warning to Motorcyclist* - There's a creek that runs over the road before you get onto the property. I had no trouble on my way in, but took a spill on the way out. The moss on the cement is like ice. Be careful! There's also a gravel hill to climb once you're on the property too, but nothing to it but to do it. If you're hesitant, Bob will gladly haul your gear up to the camping area.
