I could live out of this place!
What I loved:
The layout of this cabin felt very well planned and usable. For me, it's always fun to see as I dream up my own little place.
I usually go for a completely off-grid setup, but it was great to have electric, heat/air, water built in. (Kinda like an RV setup, with composting toilet.) The water was shut off for "winter" (spring with frosty nights), but made for a better camping experience, in my opinion.
Beautiful setting overlooking hills, great firepit with firewood, hammock and seating a few steps away.
Loved the camp kitchen! There are multiple ways to use wood/charcoal heat. A robust setup, complete with all the tools you'd need. Coffee and tea / pancake mix / oatmeal / farm eggs provided. You can even "cheat" with the electric options if you like.
Good things to know:
Download a map to the area & host-written directions before traveling. Glad I prepared this way. (They do have basic wifi available once on site.)
Driveway to the cabin was rough at the time... glad I had higher clearance on my 4runner.
I'm a social person and like more connection with the host so I don't feel like I'm intruding, but that wasn't a part of my experience. They're available if needed, but if you prefer to be left alone to do your thing - perfect!
The leaves of the trees were not out yet in early spring. I would have preferred a little more privacy. The cabin is maybe 60 yards from the farmhouse.
Good spot with lots of local parks / hiking around!
We loved the cabin! It was warm and cozy for these chilly winter nights. We cooked a pizza in the wood fire oven, and on the camp fire and they were delicious! Cabin was clean and welcoming. Might come back when it's warmer out!
We had such a relaxing time at ItzaWayzBack. My husband and I planned to venture out and explore, but we were too comfortable in the cabin. The only time we left was a day-trip to visit City Museum in St. Louis (because we had never been) and a drive to Eminence to get phone signal to call Mom on her birthday.
Dining - The cast-iron grill on the porch is perfect for hot meals. There is a grate on the fire ring for campfire cooking but 26 F was a bit too chilly with the convenience of a porch grill and coffee pot for hot water. Microwave is available. We only used it for scrambled eggs (no one likes scraping eggs off of cast-iron). The outdoor kitchen is fantastic. I want my home kitchen to be like this!
Drive - 4x4 is not necessary but recommended. A higher ground clearance IS recommended. My FWD Honda Element made the trip no problem but my Chevy Malibu probably wouldn't have. Our AT&T Cricket phone service lost phone signal 16 miles out, and data about 10 miles out. GPS worked the entire time.
Stay - The beds are incredibly comfortable memory foam. The daybed mattress feels softer but that may be the bedframe. All bedding is provided. And the wonderful heater. My goodness. Even though it got down to 26 F the first night, the loft bed was SO WARM.
So many radio stations! I put a little AM/FM pocket radio in the loft window and the whole cabin was "surround sound" on the lowest volume. The water had already been turned off for the season (as per the HipCamp description) so potable water was provided and the coffeepot warms just enough water for a wash-rag bath.
-This is the cleanest, easiest, funk-free compost toilet I've encountered.
-WiFi is available if you want it.
-Once the sun goes down you can hear so much wildlife walking through the foliage. I wish we brought night-vision to see what all was frolicking out there.
- DOGS!! We sat on the porch and listened to local dogs communicating from every direction. I love dogs so this was a huge bonus!
- Oliver is a precious Pyrenees mix who loves butt scratches.
Great stay! impressive homestead!
We had a great stay! The place was so beautiful and had many little touches that made it so great. Beds were cozy, cabin was clean, there was coffee / tea / condiments / eggs and some homegrown tomatoes for us to use. Everything we needed for cooking and eating was available at the amazing outdoor kitchen.
Farm is off a gravel road about 1-2 miles, not an issue just noting that for anyone not expecting it.
Unrelated to the cabin - we floated the current river through Carrs - it was very convenient; about a 10 minute drive from the cabin. The river was beautiful but a bit crowded. I've done other stretches of the Current or even Jack's Fork and seen way less people. Might be worth driving further to if you prefer a more secluded river experience.
No shampoo / conditioner available as indicated so bring your own.
Absolutley loved the space!
This little spot was a gem of a find! We just so happened to pick a great weekend for experiencing Fall in the Ozarks and Itzawayzback was a beautiful place to call home for a couple nights! The location is surrounded by parks and trails, we chose to do Rocky Falls and Devils Wall/Cave Springs trails, highly suggest both! The kitchen on the propert was fully stocked with plenty of cooking supplies. I definitely plan on making much more use of that space next time! We will be back!
Absolutely beautiful. Nice, clean cabin in the trees (autumn when the leaves are changing was a perfect time)!
Marie was very helpful and gotta love the complimentary hot coffee she drops off on the porch step each morning! Such a quiet and relaxing stay. :)
