Begin your evening listening to Crooked Creek running over unusual rocks and geodes with whippoorwill and owl serenades; then gaze up at the Milky Way and as many star constellations as you can identify…wake up in the morning to the Pileated Woodpeckers drumming, barn swallows swooping and gold finches eating on tall wild grasses. We are located approximately 1 hour south of Onondaga Cave; 1 hour north of Johnson Shut-ins and Elephant Rock State Park; 45 minutes southeast of Maramec Spring State Park (5th largest MO spring) and 30 minutes south of some of the best river kayaking and canoeing in Missouri (Steelville area).
Crooked Creek runs through our farm where primitive camping is available. Several camp sites are nestled on one of our pastures. If no threat of rain or the creeks not up, gravel bar camping is available. Campers/RV camp sites can be accommodated if ground is dry (there are no electric outlets).
A grocery store and a convenience store w/fuel are 5 minutes away. We have firewood for sale at $5/bundle.
I can arrange to play guitar and sing some songs you will surely recognize and enjoy (time and schedule permitting).
We enjoy the beauty of our peaceful organic farm nestled next to Mark Twain National Forest and trust that you will, too.
The only cell service that seems to work here is AT&T. There is free Wi-fi at the Casey's store about three miles from here.
Directions:
The hipcamp site will not allow me to use my full actual physical address, so here it is if you are using GPS: 1835 Iron County Road 3, Viburnum, MO 65566
As far as I know, AT&T is the only cell provider that works locally, and it can be spotty, but works well on our road and in town.
Less than two miles from where you exit Hwy. 49 (you may want to set your trip meter as it can seem farther than it really is), and after descending a fairly steep hill, you will see Crooked Creek on your left and some "No Trespassing" signs ahead. When you pass these signs your camping area will be just to your right.
The opening in the fence line will be a little farther down the road, so you will be making a sort of U turn to get back to the campsites.

It was a nice quiet getaway with a beautiful starry night. The friendly landowner Bill was kind enough to show us his goats and garden! We enjoyed a peaceful night in the mark Twain national forest :)
This is a really pretty little camping spot near a creek, super quiet and private. Service was non existent for me on Verizon, but there is a decent sized town a couple minutes up the road where you can get service and some groceries. The farm was beautiful in the early morning. Camping was on recently-mowed grass next to a fire pit and picnic table, very lovely.
One of the best camping experiences of my life. Great place to pitch your tent, very private and peaceful. Very kind, helpful host. Their property is among the most beautiful I've ever seen. We can't wait to return for another enjoyable evening. Thanks Bill.
My husband and I really enjoyed our camping experience here! The campsite feels private, cozy, and gives you with a sense of closeness with nature and the woods around you. The site, surrounding grassy area, and outhouse were quite clean and tidy. We went up to ask Bill for a bundle of firewood and he was very kind and welcoming, as were his dogs. He even invited us to play guitar and sing songs around a campfire and if we wanted to! If we hadn't been waking up for an early hike, we might have taken him up on the offer. I would recommend this site to anyone looking for an off-the-beaten-path campsite and a relaxing evening surrounded by nature.
My partner, his dog and myself had an amazing and unique experience at Bill's quaint camp site and farm. The campsite is private and the compost toilet was clean.
Bill is an eccentric, quirky, kind man who is absolutely full of life, love and wisdom. He made sure we had everything we needed and in the morning he offered us a little tour of his farm and let us pet the goats! He also let us pick some tomatoes and even gave us a bar of soap that he made. He is very refreshing to be around. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

We had a wonderful time at A Starry Night Camp! Such a beautiful area and Wil is a super friendly host. Made sure we had everything we needed. We look forward to staying here again!
It was a wonderful escape and much more enjoyable than crowded campgrounds. I will definitely go back.

Wil pointed us to an old logging road nearby that made for a nice hike, and we also had fun walking down the creek. The large grassy area where the camp sites are is a great place to play soccer, frisbee, etc, but it would definitely feel less private if someone else was staying at the other site at the same time.
