**Attention** Please note that with the leaves coming off the trees during fall, the highway noise tends to get louder. Sometimes it's fine; other times it can be very noticeable. Please don't book if this would bother you.***

Simple, rustic tent camping (site #1) or RV/car camping spot (site #2) on a 150 year old active farm nestled in a suburban setting.

Site #1 is a walk-in (1/10 of a mile) tree-covered tent camp site next to an open field. This is fairly private and out of the way.

Site #2 is a camper/RV spot next to farm buildings that can also be used for car camping. It is in the same spot as the camper cabin, and only one is booked for the same time period (if the camper cabin is booked, the RV spot is not available).

Site #2 is close to the action (and close to the outhouse, sink & barn deck). While you do have your own space, it is not secluded. Plan on seeing and hearing people, much like a traditional campground or RV park. Electrical hook up is available for a fee.

Hiking trails are on the property throughout the woods & meadow for you to use and enjoy. These are a  mile and a half of nicely-manicured, easy to moderate trails.

There is a deck on the barn for camper relaxation, and the old milkhouse is converted into a lounge for your use.

There can be traffic noise as we are close to a highway. Also plan on hearing chicken noises (we have complimentary ear plugs if you'd rather not hear the rooster a the crack of dawn).

Active farming includes hops, honey, eggs and we have goats that manage our buckthorn. Fresh eggs for sale as an "extra," as is coffee. Firewood bundles are available for purchase, and we don't mind if you scrounge for downed, dead firewood around the farm.

Wildlife is abundant. Depending on time of year, you may see deer, bear, fox, sandhill cranes, turkeys, raccoons, muskrats, barn swallows, great horned owls, kestrel, ducks, salamanders, snakes, fire flies and more. Depending on time of year you may also see ticks, mosquitoes and horse flies.

The scenic Gateway Trail for biking, walking and horseback riding is just down the road. There is access to several lakes, including legendary White Bear Lake within 5 miles if you have a boat, kayak or other watercraft. The historic rivertown of Stillwater is 6 miles away, and St. Paul/Minneapolis is 20/25 miles away.

This is a great place to camp! There are so many cute amenities that we enjoyed from the Milkhouse Lounge to the camp donuts (highly recommend!) Peter takes such great care of the property and his guests. We stayed on Site 1 and it was very easy to find.

This is a great location, close to the city making it really convenient for family camping. The hosts are friendly, responsive. Not only is it a sweet little spot for a quick getaway, the hosts welcome conversation about their relationship with the land and their plans. Visit the goats, walk the trails, take in the oak savannah and the sounds of farm life.

A great visit on this quaint farm with plenty of sky, fresh eggs, friendly owners and cute guests (goats, chickens, kitties). A little bit of highway noise competed with the rooster, but it didn't distract from the sandhill cranes, deer, owl and birds we witnessed. The fresh coffee and homemade donuts in the morning near your tent can't be beat! A great and easy getaway from the city and very close to bike trails...

Hi Heidi, thanks for visiting; it was really nice meeting your group. Glad you got to see the sandhill cranes - they are awesome. Yes, it was a bit of a noisy weekend and I felt bad, but I'm glad you were able to make the most of it. Thanks again, Peter

Peter is a great host who really cares about this farm, which has been in his family for generations. My wife and I enjoyed walking the nature trails and found the site and facilities to be very clean and well maintained. We stayed at site 2 which is among the farm buildings, but it was still peaceful and picturesque.

Thanks Daniel, it was nice to meet the two of you and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay! You'll have to have your daughter come out and inspect my hops sometime! Thanks, Peter

This was one of my favorite Hipcamp experiences to date! The directions were very clear and so helpful. The chickens were lovely and two little cats walked with us on our way to the campsite. The outhouse was adorable, the campsite was very peaceful. It was close enough to the cities for a quick night stay, but quiet and rural enough to feel like camping.

Hi Alexandra, glad you enjoyed your stay - you were so quiet I wasn't even sure you were here! I'm happy to hear the cats gave you an escort to the site. Thanks for visiting, Peter

The accommodations were beyond our expectations, loved the nature trails and saying hello to the goats and chickens. Got some eggs, coffee and donuts. They were all amazing and the host, Peter, was friendly and gave us an amazing recommendation to check out Jay Cooke State Park and Duluth 2 hours North. (We went the next day and it was breathtaking!)

We loved our stay at Whipple Tree, and will definitely be back! Peter and family were amazing hosts who have created a great space on their land for others to enjoy. From a private camp site, to hiking/walking trails, and even a front porch to sit on we found little need to explore the surrounding area, which also offered fun recreational activities close by: mountain bike trails, nature center, a lake, the gateway bike trail, etc.
Whipple Tree is our new favorite spot to camp!

Their hipcamp is an picturesque historic family farm and we loved seeing how well they've maintained the farm after 150 years! They are kind, gracious hosts and our kids loved the fresh donuts they prepare (for a small fee, totally worth it) and the well organized nature trail that takes you through several ecosystems. The trail has a map and color coordinated trail options, making it a fun choose-your-own-adventure. Our kids became our tour guides as we handed over the map. They also have a bunch of free range chickens that we said hello to. I'd much rather camp here in peace and beautiful surroundings than a full campground elsewhere. Their composting toilet outhouse is well designed and very eco-friendly. With the color coded doors and instructions, it'd be easy to enjoy the amenities even if the hosts weren't home.

Hi PJ, thanks for visiting and for the great review. Glad you enjoyed the trails and walking through the various areas of the farm. I got the sense that your family really appreciated the natural world and had a connection with it. That's what this place is all about! Oh, and donuts too :)
