Pitch your tent at one of our walk-in campsites on 60 acres of forest or hilltop prairie along Prairie Creek in Rice County, MN.  Explore the creeks, trails, forest, and our enormous granite "split rock."

Our land abuts a 60 acre county park featuring a waterfall and more trails, including a single track mountain bike course.  That's 120 acres of exploring outside your tent; this campground truly offers a large amount of remote forest for recreation right on site.

Big Woods State Park is less than 2 miles away.  Faribault is 7 miles and Northfield is 10 miles from our driveway; they offer dining, boutiques, and all other amenities.  Nerstrand is 4.5 miles east and has a gas station and a fantastic meat market.  Numerous Cannon River put-ins are within 10 miles.

Spring Rain/Snow/Melt Update:  All sites are snow-free.  Everything is melted, but that means some of the trails are muddy, especially if it rains of course.

The main parking area by sites 1, 2, & 3 is accessible.  The road to the secondary parking area beside sites 4, 5, & 6 is accessible, but can become impassable when it rains a lot.

If you come to camp in April, plan for this winter-to-spring transition.  We will keep updating the accessibility information though the spring.  As always, remember to pack warm gear for this time of year.  Nights often still get cold.

Kids under 16 camping with their parents do not count in pricing.

A map of the land is in the photos and shows locations of sites, parking and more.

Site 1 is near the creek.  Approximately 200 feet from main parking area.  Stone Fire Ring, Picnic Table, Room for 2 Tents.

Site 2 is in the pines.  Approximately 200 feet from main parking area.  Stone Fire Ring with swing-away grill, Picnic Table, Room for 2 Tents and/or 3 hammock spots

Site 3 is near the creek, too.  Approximately 300 feet from main parking area.  Stone Fire Ring, Room for 2 Tents.  this site is currently closed for improvements.

Site 4 is on the hilltop prairie.  Approximately 100 feet from the secondary parking area, this road is steep and can become difficult in rainy weather.  Steel Fire Ring w/ Grill Grate, Picnic Table, Room for up to 3 Tents.

Site 5 is on the hilltop in the trees.  Approximately 100 feet from the secondary parking area, this road is steep and can become difficult in rainy weather.  Stone Fire Ring, fold-able grill grate, Picnic Table, Room for 2 Tents.

Site 6 is on the hilltop in the trees, too.  Approximately 300 feet from the secondary parking area, this road is steep and can become difficult in rainy weather.  Steel Fire Ring, Room for 2 Tents.

Such a lovely stay. The four of us stayed at site 4 in the fall and just loved our experience. The site is private and wonderfully maintained. The surrounding area is just stunning, and the forest paths were so fun to explore. Ted’s directions and descriptions were perfectly accurate and he even stopped by to greet us (socially distanced, of course) when we arrived! 10/10 recommend this campground.

Fantastic site! Would absolutely go back again. The hiking is beautiful and perfect-lengthed for half-full day excursions with a 4 year old hiking the whole way. We mountain biked, we hiked, we had a beautiful series of fires. Absolutely would come back again.

Ted & Stephen were so gracious and we were lucky to stay with them over the weekend! My boyfriend and I have a rooftop tent on our Jeep and wanted to find a last-minute spot to take advantage of the weather.

Their property has six designated sites, but none of them were quite ready-to-go for our Jeep set-up (and March mud was something to watch out for). Before we got there, they trimmed up some branches and shuffled around a fire ring so we'd have the perfect spot. This was so kind and so above-and-beyond — especially since I'd reached out just the day before.

The park adjacent to their site is gorgeous and we enjoyed walking the trails on and around their property. We're so happy we were able to make the most of the weekend.

Ted & Stephen went above and beyond to accommodate our set-up. Beautiful day, beautiful woods, and a beautiful view!

Friendly hosts and cozy campsites! It was just the right mixture of nature and amenities like potable water and a clean outhouse. Highly recommend for anyone who needs a getaway that's far enough out of the city, but not too far from a bathroom.

If you want absolute primitive camping at its best, this is it. Beautiful place, remote and peaceful. Met Ted on the way in, he have us directions to the area to camp. Found a great location to set up. Just make sure prepared for no facilities.

Response from Ted & Stephen, the Host, on March 25th, 2021

There are picnic tables and fire rings with grills at every site and we've added an outhouse. Thanks for the visit!

Great time camping one night with my 13 year old son. Very private as compared the state parks. We were at Site 3 which I believe may be the only site with reliable wifi as you're on the highest area of the property. Easy access to the hiking trails in the county park as the camp site is literally right next to the park. We went to the state park about 2-3 miles away the next day to hike, which was a lot of fun, but being a state park it was packed with people.

Great site with a view, very comfortable. Accommodating host. Arrived during snowmelt period so vehicle access was a little challenging due to mud. Stephen helped carry gear to the site so it wasn't a big deal. Proximity to park (direct foot trail access to waterfall) is a big plus. Would stay here again.

I am a solo minimal as possible camper. I packed in at the tail end of winter and tarp camped. Quiet secluded. A nice creek running through. Lots of trees. Host Ted was very quick on responding to any questions or concerns.

Beautiful piece of wooded property. We found a site right next a babbling stream that seemed too good to be true. Gorgeous place, highly highly recommend.
