Awesome spot, the lake and view are beautiful. Karl was a very accommodating host. Great proximity to attractions in the area like Itasca State Park and Leech Lake. Would definitely return for another trip.

We had a great time at kabekona. We had the lakeside site and my wife and boys loved it. Host karl was great. Only downfall would be the bathroom. We would definitely go back.

I would like to start off by saying this is the first place that I have stayed using hip camp. I stayed in another spot the following day so I had something to compare it to. $34 is awful high to camp in someone's yard. No hookups and the feature was being able to go down and play in the lake. I had a 19-ft RV and it was tight. The site itself is not bad, but certainly not worth $34.

Place was just as advertised, we parked our camper van right underneath the trees beside the beach, and just enjoyed a weekend without our kids, laid in hammocks, swam, took the paddleboat out for a ride. Karl and his wife were very kind and welcoming, checked in a couple times to see if we needed anything but otherwise just left us alone to chill out. The campsite faces the sunset, the beach is soft sand underfoot as far as you can see, and the water is crystal clear. had a great time, and would definitely come back.

First thought was oh boy. Cabin are close together. Which for me was hard. I have a dog i wanted to let run. For he a runner.
But, let me tell you. This lake is prefect in every way. If you want to swin it a nice sandy beach. Seen a handful of people fishing.
If you bring everything you need. You be find.
If you want to be left alone. Thats a little harder. Owner live pretty close. I did enjoy talking with him. Very nice guy and good father.

Karl's place is a gem in the making. A lovely location for camping or RVing. Quiet and peaceful yet still fun. Two lots are available. One is right on the lake and the other right behind that one in a lovely clearing of trees that give alot more privacy than one would expect on first view of the property. Close to the state park but far enough away to be away from touristy stuff. The family is making some extensive renovations to the property and I anticipate this will be an awesome spot next season. In the meantime it is a great spot if you don't mind having a "make it work" attitude. You will not find a nicer family in all the hipcamp nation than Karl's family. Their kindness and generosity make it easy to overlook the current under-construction nature of the spot.
A note for dog parents:
There is an (almost) blind dog on the property (very sweet boy) and the two lots are relatively close, so leave your reactive dogs at home. The property allows off leash dogs but the neighbors do not want the dogs on their property. If you don't have excellent recall, bring your leash and tie out and (as always) keep an eye on your doggo as they explore the grounds.

Our stay was amazing and super relaxing. We were greeted upon arrival and given the option to pick our site, which was awesome. The property is rustic but that is the beauty of the location. The view of the lake was spectacular and the sunsets are georgeous. The breeze that comes off the lake is refreshing and the water is super clear. My kids loved the fact that they could reach all the way out to the floating raft. The lake bottom in the swimming area was sandy and there were barely any weeds. There was a nice fire pit provided, a charcoal grill, some chairs by the lake, and a table for use. The host and his father were wonderful and super helpful but respectful of privacy. We definitely will be planning another stay soon!
