John Muir said everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike. Allure of the Woods Rustic Retreat invites you into the possibilities of experiencing this kind of rest and play. We are located just 20 miles south of Duluth MN nestled between Jay Cooke State Park and the Willard Munger State Trail. Close yet private, this 12x14 wall tent for two is perfect for those who appreciate privacy with the assurance that we're close by just in case. Your tent doors will open to a covered porch and forty acres of mixed woods.
The off grid tent is something between glamping and roughing it. The site includes a cart to transport your gear and supplies, privy, personal fire ring, picnic table, brick rocket stove and first bundle of firewood. You can bring your own MDA or USDA certified firewood or extra firewood is available for a reasonable cash purchase. Bundle includes wood, kindling and fire-starter. Or gather it on the forest floor for free. Inside your wall tent you'll find simple furnishings; a full size futon with linens, (you may prefer to bring your own pillow) rocker, table, chairs, a few basics for cooking over a campfire or your own camp stove and a wood stove for heat in cooler/cold seasons. There is no electricity or running water so come prepared. Artesian well water is provided.
This is a ready to hit the woods or stay put campsite for adventurous or contemplative souls. Although welcome and open to anyone, this may not be for everyone. Keep in mind you'll be sharing the woods with a wide variety of wildlife and insects, including ticks and mosquitoes, so bring appropriate repellent. Our northern MN woods weather can vary from one day to the next. It’s a good idea to check the forecast and bring appropriate gear.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying here for a weekend! You really feel like you’re getting away and can relax in the peacefulness of the woods. The tent was cozy in the rain and warm at night. It was fun to see the deer go on by and watch the hummingbirds at the feeder on the porch. Highly recommend!
Was an amazing experience!! Perfect place to get away and chill! Right on the state park line with amazing trails!
Hostess was thoughtfully and has great communication! Everything was ready when we got there!
A brand new hidden jewel
The Chasah Tent is an absolutely amazing new hipcamp gem! Not only is it located literally just feet from Jay Cooke State Park, the north edge of the property borders the Willard Munger State Trail. To the west (a few minutes walk) is the St Louis River where world-class kayaking and rafting takes place.
You really don’t need to go any further than “Allure of the Woods” to find everything you need for an adventure filled get-way. Or not! Maybe you want to just sit out on the front deck like I did and s t a r g a z e and listen to distant coyotes. The sound of the river was incredible due to the spring thaw and recent heavy rain. Even the whistle of the train was mesmerizing. The tent was comfortable and had everything I needed for a great stay. Denise was so kind and accommodating. I can’t recommend this place enough! Five stars in my book!
Iconic, beautiful and cozy!
Denise’s place is absolutely spectacular! We had such an amazing time! The tent is lovely and sturdy and is surrounded by huge, gorgeous trees - literally just steps from the trails of Jay Cooke State Park, which is also spectacular! The wood stove kept us warm over the chilly night, the bed is super comfy and all the little touches Denise thought of made everything so cozy. The “Loo” is adorable, private and short walk from the tent. We sat by the fire and listened to the frogs and the river and it was an iconic Northern Minnesota experience. I would give Denise’s place the highest of recommendations!
