Had a very enjoyable stay at the secluded site at the Hardwood Hills Homestead! The rustic campsite is situated on a level clearing surrounded by woods, and was equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. The porta Jon is a short walk away down the road, and was very clean during my stay. The free firewood at the site is abundant, although it was wet when I was there, and will require splitting. The sand track coming onto the property is fairly rutted with some loose spots, and may be difficult to traverse if you have a two wheel drive vehicle with low clearance! The host is very respectful of privacy, and I actually never saw him during my stay. The other sites are close enough that you will hear your neighbors if they are occupied, but far enough away to preserve privacy. Overall a great place to experience some beautiful northwest Michigan forest scenery!

Beautiful secluded spot exactly what I was looking for! If you are a cyclist this place is right on a very beautiful ride up to Interlochen and beyond. My bikepacking bike was perfect for this route(2.5in/29 tires) The local dog Sargent even came along with me for a mile or so! Absolutely perfect trip thank you Hardwood Hills Homestead.

Great location for what we wanted to do. Close to Interlochen venue for concert.

If you head out or coming back after dark make sure to remember turns. Not alot of turn arounds. Soft areas in drive, we had 4 wheel drive pulling small tralier.
Site is as described very quite. Was pleasantly surprised by lack of mosquitoes, was planning on getting eaten alive.
There was a picnic table & fire ring, we did not use.

Directions are good, except note the road name State Park Hwy. Is missleading, it is a seasonal road, caught us off guard.

Never saw hosts in person. But they responded quickly to text. Also cell phone signal is weak, but it works.

If you want seclusion and possibly the whole woods to yourself this is the place for you. We loved our spot !! We loved hearing nothing but some critters and planes overhead. We loved not being by anyone else.

Please be aware that the roads in are all dirt and sometimes soft dirt. We had a truck with trailer towing and 4 wheel drive so we had no problem. But those roads also made for awesome walks. The porta potty is very old but adequate. It is about 250 feet from our spot but you have to walk that far in many state forest campgrounds. It does have a light that comes on during dark hours. Bring hand sanitizer though.

Many reviews from last year mentioned that the host brought you firewood. We did not have any there when we arrived but was brought some when we inquired about it. Host said he no longer provides it at your site this year but was right there after work to remedy the situation. He was so kind. There is wood down everywhere but you might need to search around for it and split it. Check the open field at the end of the road. Might want to bring a saw also. Next time we will be prepared to do that. He did provide 5 gallons of water, waiting right at our spot along with a charcoal grill.

Host respected our privacy. Directions were good and got us to our spot. This area was perfect for all the stuff we wanted to do in the Interlochen area where we have been coming for 50 years. We hope to be back maybe even this year if time allows.

Such a beautiful place and very secluded. Roger was very communicative and kind and came out to mow our campsite right before we got there—we booked his place with just a couple hours’ notice. The winding dirt roads to the site are a bit bumpy and truly in the Michigan backwoods, so we were glad we brought our car with 4-wheel drive. Roger was kind enough to also bring us a bundle of firewood and potable water and his directions to the site were clear. Highly recommend his campsite!
