Dog friendly in the woods area/campsites. Your access area is from the campsite to the pond. With permission, dogs can swim in the pond. We do have 8 dogs on the property, but they stay in our immediate yard. We are easy going couple and mind our own business. Many times there is a bus or camper being built in our driveway, so be aware; we are a working farm and are not always perfectly manicured. Sharing our property is a passion of ours, travel is also important to us and we love to share stories. We are happy to accommodate any specific needs if we can. We are a busy farm, but offer farm animal tours on occasion with notice. No animal visits without prior discussion and booking. We are happy to host parties and small events (I am ordained in the State of Michigan), we also have an indoor arena for rent. Our sister farm offers small group horseback riding, 15 mins away for an additional fee. We look forward to meeting you on your travels.
We offer access to electric for an additional small fee, with prior notice only.
NO HIPCAMPERS ALLOWED UP AT HE BARNS WITHOUT PRIOR PLANS AND BOOKING. We are a full functioning farm and do not always have the ability to do so without pre-planning.

A hidden paradise under the stars
Tara was an absolutely wonderful host. Extremely accommodating and willing to answer any and all questions and made sure I had everything I wanted out of my experience. A group of my friends and I did a long weekend camping trip for a group of 14 and everything wound up being perfect even though we left early due to storms. With all the amenities a nature lover could want— a pond to swim in, hiking trails, animals, stargazing, plenty of room to set up a hammock or roast hot dogs on a fire. This is one of my favorite places I’ve ever camped and I hope to come back again soon. Absolutely lovely stretch of land with a charm that through the work and love they have given to the land. This place was truly a paradise I hope to return to one day. Thanks for everything!
On this trip, we’ve visited at least a dozen hipcamp sites across the country and approaching Tara’s farm and being welcomed (very warmly & casually) by her and simply shown the direction of my site was exactly what I needed. I walked most of the trails on her property, visited her horses and the little pond. Mostly I appreciated the privacy of the site I chose. Few sounds besides the wildlife interfered with my sleep. Tara, busy at work on the farm, was very easy to connect with by text.
Tara was extremely communicative and when we arrived Breanna was so welcoming! Definitely feel-good vibes at Painted Acres. Loved all the animals (both wild and domestic) and camping next to the pond we heard the bullfrogs and the occasional duck throughout the night.
We had a great time..host were friendly and showed us to an area in the woods where we could chose to set up. The property is huge and the pond was warm for swimming. We forgot our poles for our tent and ended up sleeping in the bed of the truck. It was peaceful and we woke up with deer near our truck. Definitely will be coming back for a visit as our 5 and 6 year olds loved it..going to book the farm.tour next time also.
I almost don’t want to review this hidden gem in fear of it not being available when I want to return 😉
This place was everything I could have hoped for and more. If you’re into peace, animals, beautiful places and the kindest host, check this place out. Endless woods to explore, an abundance of wildlife and farm animals to observe and let’s not forget the swimming pond that was the perfect way to cool down and relax after a long trip. I could go on but I’m already worried about you all catching on. Already planning a trip back!
Ps. Get the farm fresh eggs! They were THE BEST cooked over a fire 👩🏻🍳
Camping with animals!
During our short stay at Painted Acres Hippy Homestead Camp, my husband and I enjoyed the natural beauty of a farm-based Hipcamp, and quality interaction with friendly animals.
Upon our arrival, our friendly host greeted my husband and I, then gave us a tour of this unique Hipcamp. The property itself was quite diverse. There are open-skied portions, as well as shaded, forested areas; There is a lively section filled with various farm animals, as well as a secluded perch where only a solitary teepee stands.
During our stay, my husband and I opted to set up our tent by a quaint, little pond. It was a picturesque spot to set up camp. The highlight of our visit to Painted Acres Hippy Homestead Camp was meeting all the animals. We got to interact with donkeys, goats, chickens, turkey, ducks, and horses. But, the very best interaction of all was our cuddle session with a litter of adorable Poodle/Bernese Mountain Dog
puppies. That made our trip!
Thank you for sharing your Hipcamp with us. My husband and I had a wonderful visit!
Spent the weekend camping on Tara's land, near the pond, and had a blast. She is very accommodating and responsive to any needs we had. We loved the walk around the property and being able to pet the animals.
