On the river, tent only site

Large mowed yard with dispersed trees next to the river. Electric fence serves as a boundary between yard and river. The lake is very close. It is on the other side of a large industrial building. I would have liked to have a campfire near our tents. There is a centralized fire pit next to the hosts screened patio. You can also have fires on the beach which was pretty awesome. The hosts were friendly, the bathroom was clean, and their fire wood was free

Nice quiet location, with the beach close by. Hosts were very nice and welcoming.

Extremely disappointed in the site. Description of property having one site was false as another tent was set up when we arrived. That tent was set in the middle of the lot which left a site area near one dead tree or a line of dead trees. We ended up having a tree limb go through our tent... try replacing a tent during covid for the remainder of a week and half trip. The basic description of the property says campfires allowed and pets allowed. Only upon expanding those (after we received the site rules) did we see that campfires are only allowed at the host patio and dogs are only allowed after conversation with the host. Thankfully we left our dog home due to not being allowed at another location further in our trip. We have asked the host about replacement coverage for our tent... still waiting to hear back.

Host was informative and gracious. Many places close to enjoy outdoor activities. We missed the beach walk because of rain, but enjoyed our stay and the town of Ontonagon!

Perfect location right by Lake Superior. Stayed three nights and it was nice to have power provided by the hosts. We parked our trailer out in the well kept lawn and it was great.

We loved camping in Matthews beautiful lawn and taking short walks over to the Lake Superior Public Beach. The beach is beautiful for sunsets and beach fires. The town is very convenient with a few stores and restaurants just 20 minutes from the Porcupine Mountain State Park. Definitely more private here than at a state park campground. We had awesome cell service the whole time at our site as well. Made it easy to work from our camper for a day!

The property is beautiful and a public beach on Lake Superior is a few steps away. The owners are friendly and welcoming.

Honestly though, if you’re looking for quiet & peaceful, you’ll be really disappointed; the private grounds were situated directly adjacent to a very noisy manufacturing facility which kept hours not conducive to a camper’s rest and relaxation interests. Also, we should have clarified the online description as this was not a single-site setting a perfect pick for a COVID summer getaway; masks were not worn by owners upon face to face greeting.
Yes, you could walk to the public access of Lake Superior through the cluttered VFW parking lot. The grounds at Matt’s we’re nicely mowed with several beautiful trees providing lovely shade and beauty.

Very friendly hosts and beautiful property. Can't beat the location on the riverfront with Lake Superior beach being a 5 minute walk away. This was the perfect spot for us to explore the Porcupine Mountains.
