Whether you're tenting it or renting the beautiful cabin on the property, you have the feeling of being in the middle of the wilderness.  The tent areas are set apart to insure lots of privacy.  Tent sites one and two are overlooking the beautiful trout stream.   Tent site three is at the end of the orchard looking into a wild meadow.  While the tent areas are primitive, all campers will have access to hot showers in really nice, easy access bathrooms.  The cabin has a gorgeous English Country garden in front with stone fences and an authentic Japanese fern and moss garden behind with two Japanese bridges and ancient stone sculptures from China.  To the north of the cabin is a small fruit orchard and to the south is a beautiful little red barn with a covered porch and chicken coop attached.  The property is very unique with a very large art studio that the campers are welcome to use if they ask.  All facilities are completely off-the-grid.  100% solar run with an LP back-up generator for cloudy days.  The main house has Wi-Fi which reaches about 80 feet from the house.  In addition to camping and the cabin, there are 11 guest rooms that flank the courtyard garden that could be rented as well.  A little less privacy but very well designed with paintings and antique furniture. I grow most of my own food in the summer months in a raised-bed garden that the visitors are welcome to visit.  My 20 acres backs up to 80 acres of state land and about two miles away, visitors have access to thousands of acres of land that runs along the Muskegon river.  A lot of great hiking in the area.  Camp Site one and camp site three are large enough where several tents could be placed for a group of campers.  The other sites are more remote.  It's a magical place with lots of things to see and experience.  Hope you come, relax and enjoy!

The prices listed are for the camping spots only. The cabin and the guest rooms will have their own posting.

Nearby, but not on the property

Very near the Muskegon River and many small lakes. Our trout stream is too small for canoes or kayaks.

Good swimming in the Muskegon River nearby. I am constructing a natural swimming pond in the spring of 2018.

It was a great stay at a great location. A picnic table would be a nice and useful addition to site 2 . It has a great view, very serene location.

We camped at site one located near the beautiful trout stream. Site one had picnic tables, a hammock and rock fire pit. Our camp site was conveniently located to the bathrooms and showers. Robert was a gracious and hospitable host! We enjoyed our stay!

10/10 would come back as soon as possible! The land is beautiful, and Rob is super friendly and hospitable. There are lots of raccoons and other critters that come out right at dark, so make sure not to leave any food out while you're camping. Bring a cooking grate to put over the fire if you're staying at a campsite and looking to cook. Anyway, we felt recharged after the two nights we spent - if you're looking to stay here or at a state campground, this is the place to stay. Highly recommend.

This was a great little getaway, the water next to our camp(site 1) was amazing throughout the stay! Also did not realize but site 1 is directly off the driveway which was not a problem for us, but good to know.

Robert was a fantastic host. He pulled out all the stops to ensure we had the best possible stay. He was super friendly with all the guest whilst also leaving us to our own devices. His property and site was phenomenal and you will have to see it to believe it, pictures do not do it justice. I look forward to our next stay here!

What a wonderful stay we had at this beautiful secluded eco friendly retreat in the forest. Robert was a fantastic and caring host who greatly expressed his compassion and knowledge for the art of nature and life! You can hike along the stream while frogs jump between your feet or relax in his cozy library room. There’s much to see and almost any spot is perfect to stop and meditate. His gardens are full fragrant flowers attracting hummingbirds and all kinds of butterflies. This place is truly amazing. First time hipcaming and would definitely come back. Thanks again Rob for sharing your place so everyone can experience the healing energies!

With Love and Light,

GPS took us to Buchanan and 230th which wasn’t accessible to us. Took us some figuring out how to get to Hayes but when we got it figured out, everything worked out. The dirt road leading up to the retreat is very rustic but still accessible if you go slow.

The host was amazing and warm and he really made our trip so much better. Accommodated us through a stormy weekend and that really helped keep us and our stuff dry! He even welcomed us into his house to let us hang out during the rain and use the kitchen to cook. The place itself has such a positive, warm vibe with amazing art pieces to be seen in the library. Kiki the cat is also my favorite part of the experience.

We are incredibly grateful for our stay at this paradise! It started off rocky due to the heavy rain and thunderstorm. Our plans did not go as originally intended. My friends and I, who are all Deaf/Hard of Hearing, were very much looking forward to being outside with nature and creating our own space to “just be” so at first it was a little disapointing when the campsites were rustic and more suitable for singles and couples than for group camping . There was only one site that offered any real semblance of privacy but was not easily accessible to unload/load camping gears. The resort is designed with in mind for a more communal experience which wasn’t what we were looking for. However, Robert was kind, generous and so very welcoming that with the earlier heavy rain before we arrived and pending rainstorm he offered to put us up in one of the rooms. We insisted on camping out — that is, until our site got flooded just before dark. We ended up staying in his awesome art studio which we loved and obsessed over all weekend. At night we slep there and during the day we managed to do all the things we wanted — cooking by the campfire for meals and heading out for kayaking and lounging on the beach. At night we ate in the shared kitchen space and hung out in Robert’s gorgeous library where we met others awesome people. Robert (and Corey), truly made our stay such an amazing experience that we are definitely coming back but next time with different expectations (and intentions). Robert has truly created a piece of paradise that any artist, nature loving and spiritual social being would love.
