Arrive and immediately relax in this stunning little wilderness cabin with barn, orchard, English country garden, wilderness, Japanese garden, beautiful and pristine trout stream and natural spring with two Japanese bridges behind the cabin. The cabin is true to the real wilderness cabins of old: It doesn't have electricity or running water. You can come and unplug and unwind. Read a good book and go for long walks. Renters have easy access to two beautiful full bathrooms with warm showers only 200 feet from the cabin. At the main house, you can connect to Wi-Fi and plug in to electrical outlets. The cabin easily sleeps three with room for more if anyone is willing to sleep on a mattress on the floor. It's like luxurious camping! The cabin has a large cooler to keep food (you bring the ice!), a gas grille on the porch for cooking and even an antique claw-foot tub on the porch if you want to take a bath outdoors! (There is a gas heater for the water right next to the tub.) This cabin offers a relaxing and interesting experience for anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle. It sits in the middle of the Manistee National Forest with plenty of bird song and sounds of nature to lull you into a relaxed mood.

Robs place is so beautiful!
Me and partner needed to get away from the world for a while. We through a few things in a bag and headed 3 hours away to spend a few days in the forest.
We had the best time and will be returning!
The perfect escape from
This was our second trip out to the cabin. It does not disappoint, nor does the host. We’ve enjoyed getting to know Rob and his staff over the past two stays. We feel right at home when we are on the property. The cabin is perfectly quaint. Much of our time is spent on the front porch watching bees, butterflies, frogs, chipmunks and chickens play in the wildflowers. We also like to hike the trails all along the property but a highlight for both of us is seeing what is work is happening in the studio. Robs work is mesmerizing. Lynx run is the perfect escape from reality. We will be back.
You should go
Ode to Wilderness Cabin in August (forgive me)
Flowers and bumble bees,
Light breaking thru trees
Steady but gentle rain
rhythmic beat on the barrel from the drain
So much to see
But eyes never tire
Objects everywhere to admire
Cock crows “get up”
Night is done
Immersed in nature
Not separate from
Solitude, a hammock nap
Reading at night, candles as lamp
Mosquitos plentiful! best bring some deet
But first, a very charming host to meet and greet
Lynx wildernesss; a beautiful retreat
Best stay ever.
Amazing. Serenity in a tiny cabin in the woods. Thanks to Robert for the kindness, appreciation for our patronage and sharing his beautiful property with us! The food, conversation and company were impeccable to the last moment! The chickens were the icing on the cake❤️Can we live here?
We had a wonderful little stay in the Wilderness Cabin. The ambiance Rob has created truly is a magical experience, both in the cabin and common areas. The details and maximalism of the main house is beyond words.
Rob is a gracious host and not only gave us a tour upon arrival, but also made himself available should we need anything during our stay.
We took advantage of the porch tub, which was incredible and worth the effort to fill and heat up. The grill provided was also so useful and made it much easier to prepare our meals than our small camp stove.
Be aware, there are other sites and suites on this property. The cabin being so close to the chicken house and trail head are likely to draw other guests. This didn't bother us, but if you are looking for a secluded experience, it is something to consider. The shutters on the outside of the cabin provided us with enough privacy, and helped keep the cabin cool during the day.
My only (and very slight) gripe is that the site said a cooler was provided in the cabin. There was a dingy one outside that didn't seem very usable. We had brought a small cooler, but I would recommend bringing one to suit your needs for the duration of your stay.
Overall, it was an incredible experience, and for us so nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, yet still have access to comfortable amenities.
We had a wonderful stay at this quaint cabin. The gardens and walkways surrounding the spot and throughout Roberts property were incredible. Our kids were entertained for days just by the butterfly’s, chicken and the kitty. We instantly felt welcomed and relaxed. We hope to return again soon.
