2021 Update: We had our first child this year, and so we don't have many flowers growing this season, so we want to give an accurate expectation for our Flower Farm. We are also putting our farm breakfasts offering on hold given our limited capacity. There are plenty of great hikes and activities nearby still that we're happy to recommend.

-------- About the Space --------

Our property is a cozy 4.5 acre flower farm atop a beautiful vista surrounded by hundreds of acres of contiguous nature preserves, county parks, and state game area.  We have 3 friendly pygmy goats and 15 roamin' chickens.  Please let us know if you intend to bring dogs.

-------- About the Hilltop Campsite --------

The hilltop is the favorite and where the flower beds, bonfire pit and hammock spot are. There is also a big open flat sunny area and a few shady tree groves.

This campsite is best for campers with a single car or van. Additional cars can be parked a short walk down the hill. Campers or large RVs will not fit up on the hill, and aren't recommended for this site.

See our other listing for the secluded corner campsite, which has more space for vehicles.

-------- Breakfast --------

NEW!  We are offering our homecookin' breakfast of our own chicken eggs, locally made bread toast, local organic greens, and organic coffee/tea. Avocado, bananas or other fruit included depending what we have at the moment. We ask a sliding scale donation of  $8-14 for the breakfast, and that you let us know ahead of time if you are interested.

-------- Amenities --------

Water is available via a hydrant that pumps from well water, we like the taste. There is a rustic dry composting toilet for your solid wastes.

We have electric in the barn if needed. We have internet in the house, but only available to campers by special request.

-------- Social Atmosphere --------

We’ll often be out working in the flower farm, taking our dogs for walks, and may be hosting other campers, so expect to have some socializing around the farm. We love to hear your stories and share ours.

COVID 19 UPDATE -  We are more cautious now and you'll have your space with minimum interactions, we might check in with you initially, but otherwise you'll be very socially distant!

Anyone looking to rent the whole space exclusively for more privacy, can do so for an extra charge at a first come first serve basis. Must be requested in advance!

-------- Adventure Awaits --------

It's a short walk to amazing remote natural area for wildlife viewing, a quarter mile to the middle of 38 mile Pinckney-Waterloo trail system that connects the two huge recreation areas with abundant hiking and nature viewing.

We are 1 mile from the very popular mountain biking DTE Energy Foundation Trail. We are 6 miles north of downtown Chelsea, MI with the majority of the route including the B2B multi-use trail system.

We sit smack-dab in the middle of both the Waterloo and Pinckney Recreation Areas, which offer some amazing spots to paddle, swim, and ride horses, among many other activities.

We're along North Territorial Road, a popular scenic motorcycling route, and only 10 minutes from a golf course. Our neighbors are few and secluded. And we have a couple wonderfully friendly dogs.

We are a ten minute drive to Hudson Mills Metropark, which boasts two amazing 24 hole courses. Additionally, we’re 25 minutes from Independence Lake County Park, the local favorite with 18 holes. Lastly, about 30 minute drive will get you to Bandemer, a chill course near the Huron River in Ann Arbor.

 -------- Words of Caution --------

POISONOUS PLANTS AND BUGS! We do have lots of poison ivy, stinging nettle, ticks, horse flies, and mosquitos. The hiking nearby isn’t always a mowed trail, so come prepared with long pants, tall socks and hiking boots if you want to explore the preserve.  We’re glad to show you what to look for if you’re unfamiliar, they are all easy to avoid with the right precautions.

The Hilltop Hangout is a great spot for tent camping in lower Michigan. It offers a nice view of the surrounding forests and easy access to trails. The nearby flower bed adds to the vista, and its a terrific spot for full moon rises. Doug and Kat are great, friendly hosts. Doug told me that they will improving the site soon, adding a true outhouse to replace the compost toilet. Our only hiccup was that no firewood was available on premise, as expected. So visitors should check that with Doug or Kat before arriving. Wood was available for a reasonable amount from a convenience store a few miles up the road.

Kat and Doug were great camping hosts! The site is beautiful and we loved the goats and chickens. The bugs were abundant and the compost toilet is not super ideal, but that’s how rustic camping goes. The nearby bike trails, lakes, and little downtown area make for a lovely stay!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here! The campsite was very clean and had a great view of a wooded valley below with a hiking path if you wanted to explore it yourself. There are also a lot of other points of interest in the area. We visited the nearby DTE hiking trail, Pickerel lake, and the town of Hell in our one full day out. The goats and chickens are always open for visits too to cure some boredom. We were visited by the two dogs on the farm and also a cat from another nearby farm which was another awesome surprise. The hosts were very kind and offered help with figuring out activities nearby so don’t be afraid to ask them for things to do. Hoping to find an excuse to make my way back!

It was a perfect 2 day getaway for my 6 year old and I. Stunning property. My son loved the goats and chickens and appreciate the hosts taking the time to show them to him. Peonies were in Blume and smelled fantastic.

The hilltop oasis was everything we could have asked for and more! The photos, as beautiful as they are, somehow still don't do it justice! The view is as relaxing as can be. We had two 13-year-olds in tow and we turned off the phones for the weekend. The girls laid in the hammocks and read, played cards, volleyball... it was the perfect detox! The hammocks, carefully placed in the shade, allowed the perfect amount of shade and breeze on an otherwise hot day. We could have stayed in them all day. Kat and Doug were amazingly helpful. I was unable to nail down the details of our weekend before heading up and they gave us suggestions about the area and even brought up coffee and let the girls feed the chickens. My asking for those extras was a little last minute but they were still able to accomodate us which I greatly appreciated! We went kayaking through Hell's Canoes & Kayaks - hightly recommend! We hope to be back sooner rather than later. Knowing this hilltop oasis exists just an hour drive away makes me feel happy inside. :-) Thank you so much!

Excellent service. Ask and they are willing to help anyway they can. Directions were clear and accurate. Nice family. Plenty of privacy and space to explore. Beautiful views for Campsite and fire pit. Nice to be disconnected. Playing with the goats was a huge plus for us! It was our 2nd stay and we plan to come back again!

This is a great place! We were looking for a campsite pretty close to Ann Arbor for the weekend with another family and I’m so glad we decided to give Hipcamp and this site a try. Plenty of space for two tents, possible to drive up for easy unloading, beautiful hilltop views, picnic table, a fire pit and dry firewood, nice people, chickens and two friendly goats. Campsite bathroom is a basic composting toilet in an old barn - not the highlight but fine and no problem. The campsite connects to a mile-long loop through a nature preserve that is beautiful! Easy walk with dogs and gorgeous little pond. We heard coyotes, saw geese and herons, saw deer. Really neat spot in pretty secluded area. Hosts were super friendly and even brought us hot coffee on a rainy morning. Thanks, Kat and Doug!

This is a magical place! Between the lovely goats and chickens and the rustic lush setting relaxation is guaranteed. Although I didn't meet the host Kat, I did meet her friend Anna who was filling in and she was hospitable, friendly and not intrusive in the least. Perfect! This spot is great if you don't want to leave camp because you can hike the grounds around the site which are gorgeous grassland and trees. The goldenrod really had the bees buzzing! If you do want to leave, there is plenty to do very close by with small town fun and Ann Arbor a short drive away. There are also plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking and water fun. Even the compostable toilet was much less yucky than the traditional outhouse at a camp ground. The only thing that would make this place better would be a trash and recycling receptacle but even that was easy with lots of trash and recycling available in Chelsea. We will be back often.

A great hilltop spot for hammocks! We enjoyed the quaint local town (Chelsea) and the peaceful setting for a nice weekend. The mosquitoes were pretty intense in late August so 100% deet or bug clothing is recommended. The breakfast provided by the hosts was phenomenal and well worth the booking.
