The site is a plot of land the size of an average yard. It’s right next to a road so there isn’t much privacy as far as people driving by and there is a family house right next to the property. It also seems to be a hangout spot for locals - the first night we had a few different people stop by the site to either go fishing or look at the lake. Kinda weird. We never met the host.
The site wasn’t really dirty and there was plenty of firewood, which was a plus. Definitely be aware that there’s no toilet or water, so come prepared.
We didn’t end up going in the lake because it was a pretty mucky shore, but there is a rowboat available. The paddles are small and not attached to the boat, so it would be much easier to use with 2 people. The site is very close to a beach, which is where we spent most of the day - it was very nice and there are portapotties there.
All in all, it was a fine site but wasn’t really what I imagined based on the pictures and description. The listing also says this has 2 sites - I wouldn’t have felt any semblance of privacy with another group there. We were fortunate to be the only ones booking.
We didn’t stay after seeing the campsite in person.
The access to the lake seemed overstated. The terrain was certainly not “sandy” as promised. There was a small, muddy pathway (about 10 feet?) down to a bunch of lily pads and weeds (maybe another 10 feet?), so accessing the lake wasn’t feasible. Maybe it’s different in other seasons.
Second, the site, to us, seemed way too small for two campsites, which the hosts allows. Another group of three campers in two large tents was there when we arrived (drunk teenagers, no less) and we would have been able to hear them breathe from our tent.
It was pretty disappointing for us; we drove two hours home rather than stay. But to each his own; maybe other campers have different expectations.
We drove up to this site and turned around and left. Weeds and mud was the location with a very uneven site for an RV or tent. It was in the middle of a bad neighborhood. Basically an empty unimproved residential lot near a pond. The photos on the hip camp site are extremely deceiving. Not a place for for family. Do not go here.
Great location. Very close to two public parks to access Lake Michigan (about a mile from each) and the property is on a small inland lake. Fantastic site and easy to find. I do recommend this site for people that have some, maybe just alittle, experience at back country camping and roughing it, since there are no bathroom or water amenities/hook ups.
